Exercises development

Application exercises:
For the development of the following exercises, note that ¿ corresponds to the
group number and CCC to the last 3 digits of the identification number.
2
mW /m ¿
1. An electromagnetic wave of f =¿ MHz and P+¿=120
1 , incident from the air
(η1 =120 π Ω), perpendicular to an infinite wall with an intrinsic impedance
η2=(CCC +10) Ω. Calculate the reflected power P1 and the transmitted power
−¿ ¿

2 to the wall.
P+¿¿

Figure 1: Propagation of “normal wave” in infinite medium.

For the development of the exercise we take into account the following data.

¿=60
CCC=619
Thus

f =60 MHz
n1 =120 π Ω

n2 =( 619+10 ) Ω=629 Ω

Next, the first thing we go on to find is the reflection coefficient, which we find
in the following way.

We replace and carry out:

n2−n1
Γ=
n2 +n1

Sustituimos
629 Ω−120 π Ω
=0.25=0.25< 0°
629 Ω+120 π Ω

Next, we proceed to find the value of reflectance, which we find with the
following formula and we are left as follows.

2
R=|Γ|

R=¿ 0.25∨¿ 2=0.0628 ¿

0.0628∗100 %=6.28 %

Next, we proceed to find the value of transmittance, which we find with the
following formula and we are left as follows.

T =1−R

T =1−0.0628=0.9372

0.9372∗100=93.72 %

To calculate the reflected power and the transmitted power we use the
following formulas,

We find the reflected power as follows:

We find the transmitted power as follows:

2 2
mW / m =112.47 mW /m ¿
P+¿=0.9372∗120

Checking in Geogebra

Interpretation:

Considering that we have an electromagnetic wave which has a frequency of

60 MHz and it collides perpendicular with a wall whose impedance is 629  ,

due to the impedance presented by the wall, our wave undergoes a reflection
on its signal and its power, the value of its reflection is 6.28% and the value of
reflection in its power is 7.53 mW /m 2, this shows, that the wall with which it
collides allows the passage of the wave for the most part, where only a small
amount is reflected again in its initial medium and its greater energy moves
through the wall allowing the passage of the information transmitted on that
wave, the value of Wave Transmission is 93.72% and its Transmission power
is 112.47 mW /m2 demonstrating again the optimal passage of the wave in the
middle.
