Frank was young, Jewish German girl who became internationally famous after the publication
of her diary but she never enjoyed her fame because the book was published after her death. In
the diary she described the reality of eight people who lived in a small place, but also her
dreams, hopes and feelings of a young girl. “I still believe, that people are still truly good at
heart”

Anna Frank was born in 1929 in Germany. She had a small family: her father, a German officer
from World War I, her mother, and a sister called Margot who was older than her.

In 1900 her family moved to the Netherlands to start a new life because there were afraid of
Hitler. Anne was very studious and hardworking student who had a passion for books. She had
many friends in the Netherlands and spent long hours playing with her friends.

In June 1942, Anne received a notebook for her thirteen birthday. She decided to use it as a
diary and write about her dreams to become a writer. In July, she and her family were ordered
to go to a camp so they decided to hide in the attic of her father’s workplace. They shared the
small space with another family for two years. They survived thanks to some friends who
regularly sent them food.

Unfortunately, in August 1944, German security police discovered them and arrested its
occupants. Anne was sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Anne got sick and died in
March 1945. Her diary was given to her father. It is one of the most widely read books in the
world today.
