About the book

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls is a series of two children's books, aimed at ages six
and up. Both were funded through the crowdfunding website Kickstarter, and broke site
records for fundraising for literature publication. The books each feature short stories
about 100 real women who can be role models to children. The first volume of Good
Night Stories for Rebel Girls was written by Elena Favilli and
Francesca Cavallo, and it was published in 2016.

About the authors

Elena Favilli
Elena Favilli (born 3 August 1982 in Loro Ciuffenna,
Tuscany, Italy) is a bestselling author, speaker, entrepreneur
and feminist leader. Elena Favilli is the founder and CEO of
digital media company Rebel Girls. In 2016, Favilli co-
authored Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, a children’s
book with 100 non-fiction stories about remarkable women
from all over the world. Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls
was the most crowdfunded book in the history of publishing
until Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls 2 (2017) took over
its record.

Francesca Cavallo
Francesca Cavallo is an Italian bestselling author,
entrepreneur and activist. She is the co-creator of Good
Night Stories for Rebel Girls series, which has broken
records on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter for
publishing. Cavallo's career began in theater, managing a
theater company, and in 2011 turned to the development of Timbuktu Labs with Elena
Favilli, which published a children's magazine for iPads, also called Timbuktu.

This book is about strong women throughout history; and by history, I am not just
referring to a specific period, I am talking about a hundred years ago, three or just a few
weeks ago. Stories from Marie Curie to Michelle Obama, exceptional women from
different countries, ideologies, religions, and societies; women who were brave, who
risked everything for chasing their dreams and participating in the craziest adventures
demonstrating that we can make anything we set out to a goal. Those girls that were
forgotten, discourage, and even at some point almost erased from history, but, their
bravery, steadfastness, and confidence were what empowered them to make a change in
a man's world, along with every story, this book correspondingly contains an
accompanying illustration, each made by a different artist. Adding that these anecdotes
are made to inspire us, to make us dream, no matter how old you are. Also, this book
presents us the hardships that we can go through when we try to achieve our goals, but
besides as we can take strength and overcome them. Finally, this is a book made for
when you feel like there is no hope for you in this world when you feel like you cannot
take it anymore. This book was written for those little girls, young ladies, mothers, and
grandmothers who are "rebellious". Those that in their family, community and the
world, make or will make their stories go down in history. A Beautiful book that was
created through crowd funding supported by more than 70 countries.

Description of main characters

Since the book is a book of short stories of different women and their characters vary in
each of them, I will describe these wonderful ladies in general: Each of these stories
show us both successful and everyday women, each one of them with sensitivity,
courage, and fierceness towards their objectives, sometimes full of cowardice, other
times of doubt. They could be rude, kind, shy, also euphoric, intelligent and wise.
Asian, black, Latin, indigenous, European, Caucasian. Some thin, pretty, tall, fat, cute,
short, others slim, stocky, glamorous, elegant and lastly the most important female,
woman.

Personal Opinion
This book has been one of the most beautiful works I have read, it has a special value
for me since my mother gave it to me when I was in tenth grade, already shortly after
graduating and discovering what I wanted and where I was going. Since the book is a
book of biographies and stories, there are a lot of characters (all of whom are women)
so I just cannot pick a favorite anecdote since they are all special to me. My favorite
part of the book is that each story contains a woman from almost every country in the
world and not only that, it contains stories of ordinary women; girls like me, who were
sometimes afraid, but got up and did it! It is a book that I recommend reading even so if
you are not a girl. This book as its writers have said is a book that arouses a feeling of
"rebellion" but not in a bad way, what this book woke up in me was the desire to
someday be part of those women who made a change and It does not necessarily have to
be a change in the world, it can be a change from my context. This book from the first
story you read hooks you on and on reading, wanting to know who the next woman will
be. I can say that in my 18 years of life, this is one of the loveliest and inspiring books I

have ever read and although this one in the children's category does not demean it from
how beautiful it is. This book made me cry, laugh, get angry but above all empower
myself.
