MARDIE

A 65-year-old patient confined in the hospital for a month due to stroke developed a hospital acquired
pneumonia. The patient is also known to be diabetic and taking insulin. Patient developed chest pain,
difficulty of breathing and productive cough. Vital signs taken: t=38.3; pr=110 bpm; rr=27 cpm;
bp=130/90 mmHg; SaO2= 92%. The nurse reported the gathered data to the admitting physician. The
patient is referred to a pulmonologist and the final diagnosis is hospital acquired pneumonia. Following
orders are:

Monitor blood sugar level

Administer o2 3 L/min

Perform oral and nasopharyngeal suctioning

 Chest xray
 Sputum culture test
 CBC

Administer

 azithromycin 500 mg/day IVTT


 Albuterol 500mg every 4hrs SC
 morphine sulfate 30mg every 4 hours PO
