A review of Dr. Peter Glidden's the MD Emperor has no clothes by Lawal Adama Aliyu.

(U15ph1060)

Dr.Glidden received his ND degree from Basytyr University of Naturopathic Medicine in 1991.He has 28
years of clinical experience helping people to recover their health with science-based,clinically verified
naturopathic treatments. He is currently licensed to practice naturopathic medicine in Minnesota. In
addition to his medical practice,Dr.Glidden is an author, radio host, podcaster and lectures around the
world about the medical misconceptions that are driving our health into the ditch while Big Pharma gets
rich.According to Dr.Glidden, there are two operative causes for the acceleration of the incidence of
chronic diseases in the world:

The monopolization of the medical market place by the MDs and Big Pharma.

The cult of rational science which makes no room for the miraculous and believes that consciousness
itself is a function of biochemistry.

Summary of Content

The book talks about the practice of wholistic medicine as far more superior than the allopathic
approach, although he points out that each philosophy of practice has its strength and weaknesses. The
writer argued on the allopathic practice as a reductionist view that breaks down the body into parts
which can only be useful in surgery and emergency care but not chronic illnesses like
cancer, asthma, arthritis e.t.c while the wholistic approach views the body as a whole and they treat by
stimulating the Natural healing power inherent in a living organism. He also defined health as "ability of
a living organism to experience stress and remain symptom free wherein the systems of the body
exist in a natural state of harmony and equipoise, each to the other".Allopathic medicine manages
while wholistic approach cures.

He also talked about symptom suppression.Symptoms are the body's defense mechanism against
injury.By suppressing symptoms, three things can happen which are:

(i)The body gets tired of fighting back and gives up ,then starts to generate a new symptom.

(ii)Also, each time the body system falls back to next level of defense,it gets weaker.

(iii)Side effect of the drug which can generate a new diseases with time.

He also talked about the MDs claiming that a disease is genetic just because they can't cure it and that
the MDs are at the beck and call of pharmaceutical companies just for selfish interest and the money-
making motives of the pharmaceutical companies. He also talked about the laws of similar in chapter 9,a
homeopathic view which focuses on the symptoms of a diseases in a sick person and cures it by finding a
medicine which provides exactly the same symptoms of the diseases when given to a healthy
individual. He also cited examples and studies in which homeopathic medicine cures diseases 100%.He
also mentioned that the vital force is equally important when treating a person.i.e the body's
consciousness and spiritual well-being.

Dr.Glidden also emphasized on proper nutrition as the key to health and longevity and also the body
needs 91 essential nutrients to function properly.Deficiency of these nutrients causes diseases. He also
points out that majority of chronic illnesses occur as a result of nutrient deficiency not bad genes as
claimed by the allopaths.

The alcoholic approach to cancer is not out of concern for the patient but due to the profit-making
motives of the pharmaceutical companies that manufacture chemotherapeutic agents and also
political/economic/legal affiliations that was initiated between pharmaceutical companies, hospitals and
legislators. He also states that chemotherapy is 97% ineffective and the refusal of the government/FDA
to make room for other alternatives due to selfish interest.

He also points out that wholistic medicine is not an alternative rather a primary care medicine to be
used instead of allopathic drugs and surgery treatments. He also mentions the ineffectiveness of
chemotherapy in treatment of cancer and a high percentage cure of cancer with oral supplementation
supporting it with evidence. He talked about the public's perspective of believing that Alcoholic medicine
is the king and not trying other alternatives.

In the last chapters,he talked about certain foods that are thought to be harmful which are actually
beneficial like cholesterol and also certain foods which are thought to be beneficial but actually harmful
like wheat and olive oil. This was backed up by convincible facts and evidence.

Dr.Glidden concluded his book by stating how the MD directed medicine has caused greater harm and
how Medical Nutrition is a solution to our health problems.

Analysis and evaluation

In my opinion, this is a nice book and an eye-opener which is worth reading. It is an eye-opener to the
realities and facts of life. The pharmaceutical companies are just money-making organisations while the
MDs are dogmatic and refuse to be open to change and see things different from their own point of
view at the expense of the patient. This could be probably due to their pride, selfish interest and also the
way they are programmed to see other alternatives as quackery and inferior.

I also support the wholistic approach that the mind and soul is a very important component of
health. The book is also educative by providing a scientific and rational support about the consumption
of certain foods which can be harmful or beneficial to our health and which was a common
misconception. Also, the harsh truth about chronic illnesses which are managed with
chemotherapy. These chemotherapeutic agents are causing harm in the process and eventually not
curing the diseases. This claim is a fact as it can be obviously seen.I also agree that surgery, emergency
and use of antibiotics are the greatest advantages or strength of the allopaths.

Dr.Glidden was wrong to over criticize the MDs by stating that they absolutely no training,no clinical
experience and no idea what-so-ever of how to make you healthy.I mean the doctors have been trying
their best to make you well according to how they have been trained and don't deserve this degrading
remark by Dr.Glidden.Also ,regarding the law of similars,I don't think it makes complete sense in curing
an illness.Maybe,it will make sense maybe if there is large number of evidences supporting this
law.Example is I don't think that having a headache and giving a drug that causes headache can cure that
headache.

It is very difficult to eat healthy nowadays as most of the available foods are not actually
healthy.Vitamins supplementation can be quite tricky and expensive as there is no assurance that what
is on the label is actually the amount present.Dr.Glidden is also no different from the pharmaceutical
companies he criticizes as he is also promoting his friend's business Dr.Joe Wallach who owns a vitamin
manufacturing company.

Conclusion

With the above evaluation,I think wholistic medicine would be a better approach in treating chronic
illnesses and the government should support and fund project for this practice as the allopathic
approach could not cure these illnesses. Also the public should be enlightened about homeopathic
approach towards health and also to take proper nutrition in order to prevent the occurence of a
disease.
