Euthanasia is defined as intentionally ending people's life

through administering a lethal agent to prevent them from

suffering as the pro side said. We are against on that thought and
we have another 4 reasons why should euthanasia not be
justifiable. First, euthanasia neglects the code of medical ethics.
According to World Medical Association Declaration of Geneva
1948 sometimes called the modern Hippocratic Oath that an act of
euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide is a morally forbidden
practice. This oath was amended last October 2017 has statement
"I WILL MAINTAIN the utmost respect for human life". Euthanasia
involves a decision that the person's life is no longer worth living
but to respect the quality and preservation of human life then it is
not justifiable to practice.

Our next point is that euthanasia defies religious factors.

According to the research held at Department of Religion &
African Culture and also to the Institute of Clinical Bioethics, the
Christianity and Islam which makes up to the 55% of the religions
all over the world alone are mostly against in euthanasia. Not just
the two of the biggest religion in the world but other religions in
majority are against to the thought of euthanasia because they all
believe that life is a gift given by God or Allah. Life is a sacred thing
in religious matters which people should not intervene like killing
them intentionally even if they are given the chance to do so. In
addition, many people believe that only God or Allah has the power
to take back the life they are given. These beliefs are passed
through generations and being considered when ending of
people's life matters.

Another reason that we are against euthanasia is that having

a terminal illness, disabled person and older age of the patient
affects their autonomy. According to mentalhealth.org Physical
health problems significantly increase our risk of developing
mental health problems, and vice versa. Nearly one in three
people with a long-term physical health condition also has a
mental health problem, most often depression or anxiety. Not all
patient’s autonomy can be 100% because their decision can be
affected by outside forces like thinking about the family that will
be left alone and also to the medical practitioner’s advice. Patients'
autonomy or their decision making upon knowing their health
conditions can be affected because they can be depressed and
suffer mentally when they are aware that there is no more hope
in their life. To prevent this from happening, patients’ family and
physicians should give patients hope by giving proper counselling
uplifting patients view of life, giving a comfortable healthcare and
emotional support.

Lastly, WMA DECLARATION ON EUTHANASIA AND

PHYSICIAN-ASSISTED SUICIDE stated that No physician should be
forced to participate in euthanasia or assisted suicide, nor should
any physician be obliged to make referral decisions to this end.
Meaning the doctor has the right to refuse in performing
euthanasia and under the Act, if the doctor refuses a request for
euthanasia is not required to refer a patient to another physician.
The option of refusing a request for euthanasia or assisted suicide
guarantees doctors’ freedom of conscience. The basic principle
underlying the legislation is that patients have no absolute right to
euthanasia and doctors no absolute duty to perform it according
to the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports of Netherlands.
REBUTTAL

ang suffering ng pasyente laban sa sakit nila then why not just
give them medications na makakapag relieve nalang ng pain? May
considered as killing them. The doctor offers pain relief para ma-
ease yung pain ng pasyente not to kill them. And kung mag refuse
ang pasyente na mag undergo such medications and medical
pa din ang respect for life and autonomy dahil ang pag
mag create pa to ng tinatawag nating Doctrine of Double Effect.
Doctrine stated that it's ethically OK to do it providing the bad side-
effect wasn't intended.
may sakit pa. The most important thing is physicians were able to
perform great healthcare na kailangan ng pasyente in accordance
to the medical and life ethics. Karagdagan pa dito, inintroduce ni
dating Senador Miriam Defensor Santiago ang Senate Bill 1887.
Nakalagay dito na “Mercy Killing or Physician-Assisted Suicide
Not Authorized” isa pa ay nakasaad din na “Nothing in this Act shall
be construed to condone, authorize, or approve mercy killing or
physician-assisted suicide or to permit any affirmative or
deliberate act or omission to end life other than to permit the
natural process of dying.”
To
prove this point, according to THE WEEK magazine, only 11 out of
195 countries in the world have legalized euthanasia.

Moreover, money or poverty should not be a factor in

performing euthanasia because there are many medical
institutions, NGOs, and Government offices that aids patients
financially or provide utmost medical care and support to prolong
lives. However, money can be possibly a factor of hopelessness of
patients and also to the family but healthworkers can refer or
introduce them to institutions or programs providing financial
assistance to perform operations that may save patients’ lives.

CONCLUSION
For us, EUTHANASIA IS NOT JUSTIFIABLE. For the people
who feel depressed and felt suicidal because of the pain they are
suffering, we must HELP THEM! Especially to the persons who are
disabled, elderly and having a terminal illness. We must show
them that they are not a burden and their life is important. In this
21st century, relieving the pain of any terminal illness is possible
so it should be given to them. WE SHOULD HELPING them by
KILLING the PAIN not by killing them. KILLING PEOPLE is NOT
HELPING them.
