Emily Hi, I’m Emily. I’ve come to look at the
house.
Kate Oh hi! Do you want to come in?
Emily Yes, great.
Kate I’m Kate … So you’re at the university?
Emily Yes, I’m going to start my second year in
October. I’m looking for somewhere to live that’s
closer.
Kate Oh, I see. Did you see the ad for the room in the
student newspaper?
Emily No, on the university website.
Kate Oh, right. So, let me show you downstairs first. This
is the living room, and we share the kitchen too. We
also share the housework. Lisa’s just tidied the
kitchen … but Jenny hasn’t hoovered the living room
yet.
Jenny (calls out) Sorry, I haven’t had time yet.
I’m going to do it after lunch. Promise!
Kate No problem! Let’s go upstairs. Here’s the free
bedroom. It’s small, but very comfortable. There are
shelves by the window – there isn’t a chest of
drawers I’m afraid, but there is a wardrobe for your
clothes.
Emily It looks nice.
Kate Here’s the bathroom – there’s a shower behind the
door.
Emily Do you share the bills?
Kate Yes, we do. But we don’t have to pay for the water.
Emily I really love it.
Kate Fantastic, but I’m afraid the landlord isn’t here at
the moment.
Emily Oh no!
Kate Can you call tomorrow at around nine in the
morning?
Emily Ten is better for me. I have to go the
doctor early in the morning.
Kate OK. That’s fine. Call at ten and I’m sure he’ll be
here. He’s got lots of things to do in the garden.
Emily Cheers then! See you tomorrow!
