Answer the following questions completely as you prepare to write your descriptive essay. This proposal is due at the beginning of the next class.
1.) What subject will your essay describe? Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda.
2.) Will you describe this subject objectively or subjectively? Why? I will be describing this essay subjectively because I want to try and bring out the emotion that I felt. I don’t think I could bring out the same emotion if I wrote the essay objectively.
3.) Why are you interested in this topic? Do you have a personal or professional connection to the subject? State at least one reason for your choice of topic.
I am interested in Horseshoe Bay because I’ve always wanted to visit it and see it in person and I finally got to. I have a personal connection to this since the beach has always sparked emotion in me but that emotion only grew when I saw it in person.
4.) Is this a significant topic of interest to others? Why? Who specifically might find it interesting, informative, or entertaining? What needs and expectations does your audience have?
Yes, everyone knows about a beach if they have visited it or not, and I think it might give a new perspective to Horseshoe Bay. Someone who might find this interesting is the people who travel or like to learn about different cultures. The needs and expectations of my audience will be to describe as vividly possible the experience of visiting Horseshoe Bay.
5.) What is the main purpose of your description? In one or two sentences describe the major effect you’d like your descriptive essay to have on your readers. What would you like for them to understand or “see” about your subject?
The main purpose of the description will be to vividly describe Horseshoe Bay by appealing to the senses so more people can relate to it. I would like them to understand that Horseshoe bay is more than an attraction; it is also a sign of peace for the people of Bermuda.
6.) List at least three details that you think will help clarify your subject for your readers. What details, facts, statistics, or descriptions will influence your readers the most?
The brownish color that glows in the sun. The ocean was so blue that nothing could compare to it. The sand was so soft it was like laying on a cloud. I think the details of Horseshoe Bay and discussing the peace it provides will help influence my reader to believe the strength that the beach provides is real.
7.) What difficulties, if any, might arise during drafting? For example, what organizational strategy might you think about now that would allow you to guide your readers through your description in a coherent way?
I think putting all the details together to create a good flow might be a difficult task. I will be doing chronological order; I think this is the best way because I will be talking about what I saw first and the lasting impression it gave me.
