Class Time:
Although students are expected to read To
Kill A Mockingbird independently, we will
set aside a reading warm-up of 10 minutes
at the beginning of each class. Each week
students will be reminded of what chapter
they must read to. During class, we will have
group discussions where the class is split up
into three groups (8 students/group). They
will have meaningful, in depth
conversations about their readings. Each
grade will depend on their input.

Reading:
● Beloved By Toni Morrison is a
sobering piece of literature about a
woman who escaped slavary with
her children in the United States.
This novel takes more reading skills
and has mature content.
● Brown Girl Dreaming by Jaqueline
Woodson is about a 12-year-old
African-American girl growing up in
the deep south during the 1960s, the
prime of the Civil Rights Era.
● Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and
Sweet by Jamie Ford is about a
chinese boy’s experience in America
during WWII.
