1.0 Introduction

Each human definitely has their own perspective and view toward this world that
filled by the variety of attitudes, personalities and incidents. No matter who or where we are,
each of us will always have different way of thinking. So, from my own viewpoint, this world
is like a boomerang. Obviously, a boomerang that we throw will never go to any another
direction but come heading toward us back, or in other words, it will always return to us. Fly
it to the left or to the right, or even to the front or back, in fact the boomerang still flies back
to us. Hence, the main point to be related with boomerang here is, everything that we give
from ourselves, we will always get back in return. If we used to do and give a good thing in
our life or to other people, we will be re-paid by a good thing too. What if we give a bad
thing? We will receive it back too.

I started believing in this when there was a news about a Malaysian fashion designer,
Dato’ Rizalman Ibrahim has been appointed to the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Board
of Directors. Besides being a talented fashion designer, he is also a well-mannered and
public-spirited influencer that contributes huge benefits to society. The most obvious proof is
he does establish Quran learning centre in Johor Bharu, specially for adults and was set up
under the auspices of his new foundation, Yayasan RI. Part of capital of the establishment are
took from the sales profit of his own business. As he did lot of charity before, his good deed
got countless praises and compliments from people especially our citizen and netizen. In the
end, he was trusted by UiTM administration to be appointed as UiTM Board of Director as a
result of his valuable and precious experience that he owns. In other words, he was rewarded
by Allah because of his good deed before.

2.0 Western Ideologies

2.1 Naturalism

Naturalism is belief that everything in the universe are naturally happen without
anybody’s creation or spiritual matter. It gives a positive impact to myself when it comes to
adding more knowledge about sciences. As I know, some naturalists did lot of scientific
studies about the object and environment that exist in this universe including human creation
since they need to know how it naturally occurs. Obviously here I can learn more and more
about human being too such a human genetic, human growth and human behaviour¸ even
though indeed I believe that everything happens caused by God’s determination.

Besides, in a positive way, Naturalism does create a tolerant society since most of us
were polished to understand and accept other’s behaviour. The results from scientific studies
about human prove that we cannot change other’s attitude and principle because both
naturally exist in human themselves. Naturalist believe only nature such as age or
environment can change human himself. Referred to Encyclopædia Britannica, “While
specific traits of one's personality, temperament, and genetics may be more consistent, other
behaviours will change as one moves along different stages of their life, i.e. from birth
through adolescence, adulthood, and, for example, parenthood and retirement”.

Human mistakes create the law of a country. The good deed must receive a reward,
meanwhile a mistake made by human must be punished. A country or government know that
human will always do mistake since born, so education in themselves will be built through
the punishment given to them. It is for the sake of peacefulness in a country itself. If there is
no mistake occur, there will be no rule and law.

2.2 Secular Humanism

Secular humanism is an ideology that separate religion from lifestyle, plus the
decision making is based on human logic thinking as long as it is rational. In my point of
view, secular humanism makes me normalizing the wrong and sinful action in my life,
though it is objected in my religion. As a clear example that had happened to myself is, I
often talk harshly to my friends since we are already have a close friendship, so I guess there
would be no problem to have a harsh joke with them. In fact, Muslims are not allowed to talk
roughly to others. Allah's Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "Whoever believes in Allah and
the Last Day should talk what is good or keep quiet, and whoever believes in Allah and the
Last Day should not hurt (or insult) his neighbor; and whoever believes in Allah and the Last
Day, should entertain his guest generously." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6475).

Other than that, for me, secular humanism got a positive impact to the society
especially in Malaysia that has adherents of different religions, which is the non-Muslim will
get to live their life peacefully in this country too even though the majority of citizen in our
country is Muslim. All citizens from different religion can be tolerate with each other. For
example, non-Muslims are unprohibited to take alcoholic drinks in our Islamic country.
Hence, there will be no riot between any religion adherents regarding this kind of religious
issue.

Besides, this ideology sometimes affects our country in terms of the number of
criminal cases, for example the stealing case does increase day by day. The biggest
probability that causes this problem is our government still not implementing Islamic law,
‘Hudud’, and using British law instead. Literally our government does separate Islamic law
from our country. For instance, our current law sentences the offenders of stealing with
imprisonment and fine, but Hudud sentences the offenders by cutting the hand based on the
level or number of their stealing crime.
2.3 Postmodernism

Generally, postmodernism is the ideology that promotes the acceptance of any

opinion, it believes that everyone deserves to make their own choices as there is no absolute
true or wrong on different perspective. As I see, postmodernism gives me a freedom to
choose any choices either it is come from my own suggestion or other’s. As example, I chose
my own program which is language program for my further study, meanwhile my parents
insist to take sciences or accounting program. Their choices both are not wrong, yet my own
choice is not wrong too. In the end, I deserve to choose on my own.

Postmodernism also gives much impact onto society, one of them is it affects family
lineage. Some members of a family won’t follow and obey their family’s religion, tradition or
rules since they hold onto the principle that everyone have a right to decide their own
lifestyle. For instance, a non-Muslim converted to Islam, statistic from Jabatan Kemajuan
Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) depicts that the number of new Muslim increase from 7,532 people
in 2004 to 8,055 people in 2005. Meanwhile at the same time the number Muslim that
converted from Islam to another religion also increases from 34 people in 2004 to 43 people
in 2005. Obviously, everyone in this country have their own right to choose either to follow
their family’s religion or vice versa.

Furthermore, the impact to country is, Malaysian have their own right to elect their
Prime Minister themselves since our country Malaysia is implementing some postmodernism
in this situation. The citizen can either vote the current government or opposition when there
is an election in our country. As evidence, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) won the election PRU-
14 to govern Malaysia defeating previous government that had been govern for 60 years.
There is no wrong or right on their decision, they can change it anytime, so overall it is just
100% depends on themselves, no one can hinder them.

3.0 The Difference between My Own Worldview and Western Ideology

I believe that everything that we do and we give, we will get it back. No matter it is
good or bad, negative or positive action, all of them will come return to us by God’s
determination. If I suddenly get rewarded either it is the same as I give or in different way, I
believe it is a gift from Allah for my previous good deed. When I have some troubles or got
any pain, I believe that it is part of how I get the retribution for my wrong-doing.

Meanwhile the Naturalism have a kind of belief that everything happens to us either
good or bad are both caused by nature itself, the nature law acts on them, as well as it is not
caused by the retribution of their action, manner or previous deeds.
 To sum up, Western Ideology have both good and bad side, positive and negative
impacts. We as Muslim have our own choices either want to follow any ideology or not, as
long as we do not deviate the rules of religion.
