This assessment gives students the opportunity to demonstrate the required knowledge of the units
BSBPMG522 Undertake project work

Answer the questions in the ‘Questions’ section below in sufficient depth. Ensure your name and
student ID are on each page of your answer document and submit your completed answers to your
trainer along with a signed assessment cover sheet. Address all the elements of each question. You
may consult your workbooks and any additional resources you want in order to answer these
questions.

Evidence Criteria
Do the student’s answers do the following in sufficient depth:

• give examples of project management tools and how they contribute to a project
• outline types of documents and other sources of information commonly used in defining the
parameters of a project
• explain processes for identifying and managing risk in a project
• outline the organisation's mission, goals, objectives and operations and how the project
relates to them
• explain the organisation's procedures and processes that are relevant to managing a project
including:

• lines of authority and approvals


• quality assurance
• human resources
• budgets and finance
• recordkeeping
• reporting

• outline the legislative and regulatory context of the organisation in relation to project work,
including work health and safety (WHS) requirements.

1. What are the characteristics of a project? How do projects differ from ‘operational’ work?
2. Describe these project management tools, and explain how they contribute to the
management of a project:

b. Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
c. Risk register
3. What sources of information might be used to define the parameters (scope) of a project?
4. Explain how risks in a project are identified and managed.
5. Explain what an organisation’s ‘mission statement’ is, and how it relates to the projects an
organisation undertakes.
6. In your opinion, what behaviours/practices enable effective administration, implementation
and monitoring of the various areas of a project (e.g. changes, quality assurance, human
resources/teams, budgets, recordkeeping and reporting)? Write at least 100 words.
