DEFINITION
Set of capacities that a person must influence other people, thus making them
work for the achievement of the goals or objectives of the team.
• It implies:
- That the team members understand and follow the leader's instructions
- The exercise of leadership based on values and principles that are related to
all members of the group.
Leadership is the function that a person occupies that stands out from the rest
and is capable of making the right decisions for the group, team or organization
that precedes it, inspiring the rest of those who participate in that group to
achieve a common goal. For this reason, it is said that leadership involves more
than one person, who leads (the leader) and those who support him (the
subordinates) and allow him to develop his position efficiently.

-Ability to use power efficiently and responsibly. The leader must know how to
redirect power, without abusing it and using it responsibly. If they act in an
authoritarian way they will be making mistakes and will lose their position.

-Ability to understand that all human beings have different motivations. The
motivating forces of a person can vary with the occasion and the situation. The
leader must understand the ways of acting of an employee and their
circumstances. Therefore, you must foresee different types of motivation
according to each of the situations to achieve the stability of your group.
-Ability to inspire. To know what leadership is, one must understand that the
ability to inspire is essential in a leader, he must inspire the members of the
group he leads. When we speak of inspiring we refer to the example that you
give as a reference to others.
-Ability to act in such a way that there is a climate that invites us to respond
and arouse motivations. The work environment or climate is a very relevant
aspect, for this reason the leader must take care of keeping it in balance and
as a source of motivation.
Leader Types
Autocrat: considers that he has unlimited authority and power and always
seeks to demonstrate it to others
Laissez faire: does not get involved with the group; let everyone do what
they want
APPLICATION TO AVIATION.
Pilots and other members of the aviation community vary in their definition of
leadership. Some believe that leadership involves influencing people by providing
purpose, direction and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and
improve the organization. Others believe a person with outstanding leadership
possesses the human qualities required to make good judgments and decisions.
Still others define leadership as a professional attitude or a personal aptitude
like decision making. Finally, leadership can be defined as an outcome — if others
willingly follow you, you are a leader.
