ORDER

The Controller of Examinations,vide letter No.57030/ES-X-ASST-III/2016/PB dated 05-


10-2016 stated that no specific orders/directions have been issued for the conversion of
Grace Grade Points to the corresponding Grace Marks under CUCBCSS. Since mark
system is followed instead of grade system with effect from 2014 admission(CUCBCSS),
the branch is not in a position to dispose of the applications for the award of Grace Marks to
eligible students under various categories.

After having examined the matter in detail, the Vice Chancellor has ordered to place the
matter before the Syndicate and thereafter to the Academic Council.

The Syndicate at its meeting held on 03-12-2016, vide item No.2016.1166* considered
the question of conversion of Grace Grade Points to Grace Marks and resolved to entrust
Dr.K.M Naseer and Dr.C. Abdul Majeed to suggest the mode of conversion of Grace Grade
Points to Grace Marks. Accordingly,vide paper read as (2) above, the resolution has been
implemented.

The sub committee to suggest the mode of conversion of Grace Grade Points to Grace
Marks at its meeting held on 09-01-2017, considered the matter of conversion of Grace
Grade Points to Grace Marks for awarding Grace Marks to CUCBCSS-UG Programmes
and recommended mode of conversion of Grace Grade Points to Grace Marks. The
committee also considered the conversion of Grace Marks ordered vide paper read as (4)
above and recommended to convert the Grace Marks to Grace Grade Points.

The Syndicate vide paper read as (3) above considered the minutes of the meeting noted
above and resolved to accept the recommendation of the sub committee which is detailed
below.

The Vice Chancellor, after having examined the matter in detail, has ordered to
implement the resolution of the Syndicate vide paper read as (3) above.
Sanction has therefore been accorded to convert the Grace Grade Points to Grace Marks
and Common Rules for awarding the same as detailed below.

Common rules for awarding Grace Marks

I. The Grace Marks for all the above categories shall be effected from the section
concerned in the Pareeksha Bhavan, on request of the candidate,duly recommended and
forwarded by the competent authorities as follows:-
Sports & Games :Director, Department of Physical Education, University of Calicut.

Cultural activities : Dean of students' Welfare,University of Calicut.

NCC : The Principal and the Group Commander/ Officiating Group Commander , NCC
Group Head Quarters (except NC 05)
NSS : Co-ordinator,NSS Department, University of Calicut (except NS 03)

1 . In the case of disabilities, certified by the specialist concerned and forwarded by the
Principal of the college.
2. The Grace Marks shall not be shown separately in the Mark list/ grade card.

3. Fractions of Mark if any arrived at while computing Grace Marks will be ignored.
4. The Grace Marks will not be awarded to the paper(s) in which a candidate is absent and
total mark of papers for which the candidates in absent will not be reckoned for calculating
the Grace Marks.
5. The maximum cumulative Grace Marks awarded to the students under CUCBCSS-UG
programme in a particular year for all the activities and disabilities such as Sports,Games,
Cultural Activities, NCC ,NSS and other disabilities put together should not exceed 25% of
marks.
6. Moderation shall be effected after the Grace Marks have been added to the original mark
of a student.

7. The Grace Marks awarded cannot be used to achieve 90% of mark in a particular course
ie, upto 89% of mark in each course (common, core ,complementary and open) may be
awarded utilizing the Grace Marks.

8. The Grace Marks awarded shall not be considered for ranking.


9. The Grace Marks shall be distributed to the best advantage of the student at the time of
finalization of the results in the semester concerned according to the request of the
candidate.The maximum Grace Marks awarded for an individual course/ paper of UG
Programme for a pass should not exceed 25% of marks.The remaining Grace Marks are to
be distributed on other passed papers/courses so that the maximum Grace Marks awarded
for an individual paper/ course should not exceed 30% of marks(U.O No.1152/2017/Admn
dated 31.01.2017). However for the winners (1st ,2nd or 3rd) of Sports activities at the Inter
University / Inter State Level/ Inter Zone and above and also for Physically and Mentally
challenged students, this rule may be relaxed to obtain a pass mark in a particular course /
paper.
10. The Grace Marks once distributed on the request of the candidates will not be reopened.

11 . The Grace Marks in CUCBCSS-UG shall be calculated on the basis of total


External/ Written theory examination only,excluding Internal marks and the marks of
Practical and Viva-voice from AO series Students (2014 Admission) .(U.O
No.6749/2016/Admn dated 30-05-2016)

12. In CUCBCSS-UG semester pattern,the academic year may be taken from 1st June to
31st May and the Grace Marks may be distributed to the two semesters in that academic
year according to the choice of the student.
13. The student shall claim the Grace Marks within 6 months after the end of the academic
year(unless otherwise specified).
14. N+1 students under CUCBCSS-UG programme are eligible for award of Grace Marks
for sports activities as per U.O No.GA1/A2/5851/2000 dated 15-12-2000.
15. Grace Marks be awarded irrespective of annual or supplementary appearances for
those candidates who could not appear for the University Examination solely due to their
participation in Sports and Games coaching camps/events at their next chance as per
U.O.No.GA1/A2/7508/1997 dated 20-10-1998.
16.The Grace Marks will not be awarded for supplementary appearances until and unless
for clause No.14 & 15 above.
17.Since the physical and mental disabilities are permanent one, such candidates are
eligible for award of Grace Marks for the examinations including supplementary
examinations.
18. The Grace Marks shall be awarded to all categories coming under CUCBCSS-UG from
2014 admissions onwards.
