This method statement describing the outline procedure to be followed for Plumbing Work to
be executed at Maruti Hospital, Sitapur.

2. Scope of Work:
Plumbing Work.

3. Reference and Standard:

This document should be read in conjunction with GFC drawing.

4. Material:

 A 'Material Proposals' schedule will be submitted to the supplier giving details of

materials, manufacturer's name, technical details etc.
 Total attention shall be taken to guarantee that the materials that finally arrive at site meet
all requirements of technical specifications and the bill of quantities, for which the store-
keeper and site specialist ought to be responsible.
 Materials shall be of good quality as specified in the list of approved makes. They shall
conform to the respective Bureau of Indian Standards/ British Standards Specifications/
ASTM Standards and supported by Manufacturing Certificate/ test certificate/ certificate
of origin wherever relevant.
5. Temporary Services:
Scaffolding will be double or single as per safety manuals.
6. Methodology:
a) General
 The pipe-laying requires too much care while laying, along with close watch to ensure the
levels required for quality assurance to attain a satisfactory job.
 Pipes should be laid according to specified grade in straight lengths with least number
horizontal and vertical bends.
 It should be taken care of that pipes are not to be bedded directly on large stones.
 Precision is necessary for ensuring quality of work; joints and jointing materials should
be kept perfectly clean.
 All specials and fittings etc. should be installed at the same time of main pipe installation
work, without leaving gaps for later insertion.
 All valves and appurtenances shall be operated during the test period. The test shall be
conducted with valves in the open position.
 The hydrostatic test shall be repeated until the leakage does not exceed the rate specified
above. All visible leaks shall be similarly repaired.
 Before applying the specified test pressure, care shall be taken to release all air within the
pipe and appurtenances to be tested. Air shall be released through services, fire Hydrants,
Air release valves, or other approved locations.

b) External piping – Water supply

 Excavate trenches to needed depths as per operating drawings.
 Prepare base of trench for laying pipes, as per technical specifications.
 Lay the pipes on the prepared base and support them at adequate intervals.
 Test the pipes for leaks harassed within the presence of client’s representative and
maintain a ‘test certificate’ punctually signed by the representatives of the client and
contractor.
 Coat the pipes with the specified anti-corrosive treatment (if metal pipes are used).
 Provide encasement with sand/granular material, if specified.
 Backfill trenches in layers including compaction.

c) External piping - Sewerage & Storm water

 Mark pipe lines in ground according to working drawings.
 Excavate trenches to needed depths as per operating drawings.
 Prepare base for laying pipes.
 Lay pipes according to specified gradient.
 Perform pressure driven/smoke investigate and acquire accreditation frame from
customer's illustrative.
 Provide encasement with concrete / sand/ granular material, as specified.
 Refill trenches in layers including compaction.\

d) Shaft Piping
 Check for funnels on the plastered shaft dividers as indicated by points of interest in the
working illustrations. Guarantee that the plastering is finished as it will be practically
difficult to plaster dividers after the pipes are set up.
 Fix brackets as per details shown on the working drawings. A clear gap of 25 to 50mm
shall be maintained between pipe and wall surface.
 Clamp pipe assemblies on to the brackets. ensure the pipes area unit in ‘line’ (horizontal
runs) or in ‘plumb’ (vertical stacks). Wherever enlargement / contraction is a priority,
make sure that pipes don't seem to be stiffly command to brackets.
 Make cut-outs on the shaft walls for branch pipes at locations shown on the drawings.
 Provide branches on the pipe assembly for connections to internal pipe work. Provide
uninflected valves on water system pipes at locations shown on operating drawings; at
simply approachable heights.
 Test the pipes for leaks under specified pressure for the specified duration.
 Tests must be witnessed and approved by client’s representative.
 Paint the pipes as per approved colour code and provide identification labels where called
for.

 Take measurement of pipes installed. A client representative must be present and should
acknowledge the records.
 Terminate soil, waste and vent pipes with vent cowls at such heights higher than terrace
level. Make sure that vent cowls don't seem to be terminated among one meter
(horizontally and vertically) from any window openings.
 Terminate installation risers with automotive air vents (with analytic valves) and down
pipes with drain plug/drain valve – all as per drawings. Make sure that installation pipe
work would be self-venting and self-draining.
 Connect the soil stack to inspection chamber at ground level.
 Connect waste stacks to the gully trap at ground level. Connect the gully trap to the
inspection chamber.

e) Pipes in wall chases

 Ensure that walls are in any event harsh put and complete levels are set apart by the civil
contractor. On the off chance that appropriate cladding levels are not denoted, the funnels
could be too profound or excessively shallow inside. Pipes somewhere down in the wall
will require utilization of augmentation areolas at fixtures. Divider ribs of hid stop cocks,
disguised shower blender and so forth won't fit-in effectively.
 Mark pipe lines on walls as shown on the working drawing.
 Chase the walls to required depth using a chasing machine.
 Assemble piping beginning from branch left in shaft and introduce in the wall pursue with
braces. Utilize pre-created gatherings wherever conceivable.
 Locate fixture outlets according to working drawing and tile-module drawings. Title
modules shall be marked on walls by the civil contractor.
 Plug all openings and test the pipe work for leaks under specified pressure and for
required duration. Test should be witnessed and approved by client’s authorized
personnel.
 If metal pipes are used, apply anti-corrosive coating or wrapping on the pipe. Make sure
that the tested pipe joints are not disturbed.
 Insulate hot water pipes with the specified material. Wherever possible, pipes may be pre-
insulated/pre-wrapped, leaving joints, prior to installation in the wall chase.
 Close the wall pursues with bond mortar or cement.

f) Pipes in sunken floor or suspended in ceiling (Drainage)

 Ensure that base water-proofing of toilet floors is completed.
 Locate and mark positions of soil and waste outlets and make core drills where necessary.
 Assemble pipe headers and connect them to branches left in the shaft for this purpose.
Pre-fabricate wherever possible.

 Ensure that pipes area unit in correct slope and area unit supported adequately. invariably
make sure that the spacing of supports is as per specifications. make sure that floor traps
area unit put in level (not tilted) so the water seal isn't diminished
 Test the pipes with free flow test by means of water and attend to leaks, if any.
 Manage the filling of depressed floors by civil contractual worker with the goal that the
arrangement and incline of waste funnels are not disturbed. It is in the pipes contractual
worker's enthusiasm to guarantee that water sealing of the center drills is done and tested.
 Keep all open ends plugged to prevent ingress of construction debris.

g) Sanitary fixtures & CP fittings

 Flush the installed pipe work for water supply and drainage to remove debris or
blockages, if any.
 Install hygienically fixtures, taps and toilet accessories. Use screws with nylon washers to
repair vitreous crockery and PTPE tape for installation of taps to pipe work.
 Check CP fittings for leaks and firmness and refit them if necessary. Ensure that proper
tools are used, and they must not make scratches or any other kind of damages on the
chrome plated fixtures.
 Commission the toilets in the presence of the client’s engineer.
 Handover the toilets formally using the forms provided for the purpose.

h) Laying and jointing of UPVC Pipes and Specials – Internal

 The PVC pipes having one end socketed the care should be taken that direction of socket
end should preferably be against the flow of water, the laying of PVC pipeline should be
straight and in correct alignment and laid on levelled bed.
 While jointing PVC Pipes and specials it should be ensured that the surface of end of
PVC pipe and inner side of socket where solvent solution is to be applied remain clean
and dust free.
 The Horizontal pipes shall be fixed on necessary Brackets with necessary Universal
clamps based upon the diameter at adequate intervals depending upon wait min. At 1.5 m.
 The vertical pipes shall be installed with necessary vertical supporting system being fixed
to individual floors.

i) Flanged Pipes
 Two practical points need to be noted when setting up flanged piping
 Care must be taken not to tighten up the flange bolts until it is certain that the exact
alignment required has been achieved. If there is lack of alignment between flanges the
tightening of the bolts can break the flange.
 The stipulations of the appropriate IS code must be strictly adhered which are generally
followed by the manufacturers/suppliers.

j) Testing of Works
 The works to be tested on site, pipeline laying and jointing, and hydrostatic leakage and
water tightness tested after completion.
 All the materials proposed to be used in these works must have been tested by the
Contractor.
 Required materials tests to be carried out.
 The full requirement, for the testing of pipelines, is given within the provisions of the
contractor’s contract and specifications. Every section of pipeline laid must be tested
before it can be accepted by the supervising engineer.
 The test should be carried out at specified pressure and any resulting losses should be
within the stipulated permissible levels.
 The pipeline should only be accepted after ensuring losses within the permissible levels,
under the full terms of testing.
 The test Pressure applied should not exceed following:
a) The designed maximum operating pressure in system.
b) The designed pressure rating of the pipe
c) The designed pressure rating of any system component, whichever is lowest.

 A pressure test should be conducted at 150% of the working pressure in the line. The
working pressure is defined as maximum anticipated sustained pressure in the line being
tested. The working pressure shall be 3 bars for our design. (ref. Hydraulic calculations)
