Design Thinking Recap

This assignment will tie all the parts of the two design thinking projects together and ask you to
think about and consider the elements of Design Thinking. Please take your time on this
assignment as it will comprise the bulk of your individual grade for P2.

Design Thinking Process

Purpose of Design Thinking
In your own words supported by evidence from the two design thinking projects we have done
please state what the purpose of design thinking is. Feel free to use the template or replace it
with your own words.
The purpose of design thinking is to Solve a problem in the world with yourself or with a
group. For example during the Mascot project we created a mascot to spread awareness
about the diseases and how to combat and prevent them from spreading to others.

Choose 1:
❏ Design thinking is only used to create new products.
❏ Design thinking is used to create new products, but also to make improvements to
existing products. It can also be used to create other things that are not tangible
(physical) products.
What evidence can you cite to support your choice?
I chose this option because during the Mascot project my group created a mascot to
represent a solution to a problem in the world .

Discovery Phase
The first phase we undertook in both design thinking projects was the discovery phase.
Referring back to the material on Google Classroom, Pactful and your work, what is the
purpose of the discovery phase?
The purpose of the discovery phase is to find and Identify the problem that we are facing, like
the COVID-19 my group made a mascot for the pandemic and made it so that everyone can
remember and think on how to stay clean.
Describe at least one activity you performed in the discovery phase, provide something that
your group created in the discovery phase and provide evidence to support the purpose you
stated above.
One activity my group completed during the discovery phase was how to solve Homlessness
in our city.
720/edit )
The activity demonstrates the purpose of the discovery phase because we are searching and
identifying the problem of homelessness problem in our city by asking the question and
finding the answer.

Interpretation Phase
The next phase we undertook in both design thinking projects was the interpretation phase.
Referring back to the material on Google Classroom, Pactful and your work, what is the
purpose of the interpretation phase?
The purpose of the interpretation phase is where to find the answers from the last phases,
and during the research portfolio we find the answer to the problem that we found out and
make scenes on it.

Describe at least one activity you performed in the interpretation phase, provide something that
your group created in the interpretation phase and provide evidence to support the purpose you
stated above.
One activity my group completed during the interpretation phase was the “Are Targeted
Political Ads Deceptive?”. During that activity we created questions and provided answers to
our questions.
edit ) That activity demonstrates the purpose of the interpretation phase because We made
sense of the things that the ads are showing us and what they’re doing to persuade us to
buying their products.

Ideation Phase
Referring back to the material on Google Classroom, Pactful and your work, what is the
purpose of the ideation phase?
The purpose of the ideation phase is to take the info from the two previous phases and forge
them into Actual ideas for the people to use and make out of. The purpose is to make things
easier and more efficient for our lives like making better phones and computers.
Describe at least one activity you performed in the ideation phase, provide evidence of
completing the ideation phase and describe how that evidence supports the purpose you stated
above.
One activity my group completed during the ideation phase was padlet for the homelessness.
The output of that activity was for the homelessness
(https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UaGpmHo9vnNM8ia0do0MFbMSEcUCMCj8/view )
That way that this activity demonstrates the purpose of the ideation phase is showing our
ideas in a way to easily see and change things we can do for our community

Experimentation Phase
Referring back to the material on Google Classroom, Pactful and your work, what is the
purpose of the experimentation phase?
The purpose of the experimentation phase is to test the idea(s) we come up with, the purpose
is to test our solution for our problem(s).

Describe at least one activity you performed in the experimentation phase and provide
evidence to support the purpose you stated above. Provide a link to something that you created
during the experimentation phase.
One activity my group completed during the experimentation phase was the mascot posting
event.
That activity demonstrates the purpose of the experimentation phase because we posted it
and see the results for our designs and how it fairs with other people's ideas .

Evolution Phase
During our two class projects we did not really provide time to conduct a proper evolution phase.
However it was discussed in the materials on Google Classroom and on Pactful. Describe the
purpose of the evolution phase in your own words.
The purpose of the evolution phase is to test and improve our designs or prototypes and
make them better.

Describe how you could use user feedback to improve the product you created in the
experimentation phase for either design thinking project.
During the experimentation phase my group created prototypes and a survey for them to use
the feedback. During the evolution phase we could gather feedback from users by giving them
a survey and putting “In three words what does this mascot tone?” .

Collaboration
Collaboration is the process of working together in a team. Describe one activity you completed
as part of your team that would not have been able to be completed by a single person in the
time allowed.
Is the prototype design, even though I could make a design but to make it better people can
come together and combine different styles to make a new design for the mascot.

What is one problem you encountered working in a team?

In the communication within the team, not everyone was in the same boat, in the same pace,
and the same room.

What is one thing you learned from working in a team?

It's important for everyone to talk to each other to make the team and the ideas flow better
and faster.

Communication
Provide an example of how you used a digital tool within your group to share ideas.
We use emails to talk to each other from a far distance away and send in rough drafts for
them to see and write on.
Creativity
During this class you learned that creativity is not a talent but a skill that can be practiced. Using
Google Classroom or Pactful as a resource, describe some activities that you can use to
practice creativity in a group.
Is to have a small competition about being creative to solve a crazy problem like a drawing,
building, and a coding contest.

Critical Thinking
Pactful says, "To empathize with others and understand the problem, you must remind
yourselves that other people have different life experiences than you do. By uncovering your
personal assumptions about a problem and why it exists, you avoid jumping to conclusions to
deeply understand the complexities of the problem."

e3 Civic High 8 Tenets of Critical Thinking

● Discipline of Mind
● Metacognitive Thinking
● Open mindedness
● Empathy
● Humility
● Questioning
● Healthy Skepticism
● Reflection
Briefly describe how uncovering personal assumptions relates to critical thinking.
If we just do things on assumptions we can never go far in life as a whole, but if we consider
and think about others we can help each other and move forward.

Cultural Competency
Cultural competence is about our will and actions to build understanding between people, to be
respectful and open to different cultural perspectives, strengthen cultural security and work
towards equality in opportunity.

Discuss an activity you did during one of the design thinking projects that led you to understand
a different cultural perspective.
A product’s design is made for everyone and to connect people, one activity that involves
cultural competency is the prototype, the prototype(s) must stand against multiple test in real
life and is to understands other’s views on what topic its about, so the prototypes involves
many cultural competencies with different groups.
