Super Rad Frosting Powered, TUBE SURFIN’!

Synopsis: A tribute to my love of Toys, Advertising and Saturday Morning

Cartoons in the vain of a fictitious advertising block, featuring action figure, toy
and fast food commercials from the 80s childhood I never had.

The Outcome: I aim for the short to be a three-part ad block containing a trio
of fake ads! Featuring: Ed Venture, an adventure-based Action Figure line tied
to a cartoon, of the exploits of an Archaeologist Sabre-toothed tiger, hunting
down artefacts and fighting his extensive rouges gallery. Spooky Martian
Madmen, a gross out, Muscle style toy line featuring a variety wacky mutant
alien creatures! Finally, a fast food toy ad for Happy Flabby Burger featuring
the set of toys ‘Incognito Insectoids’. A set of weird bug creature inside clip on
disguises, similar to the Super Hero Looney Tunes McDonalds toys. As well as
the three main one’s I’d add snippets, mere seconds of other ads such as a
cereal ad and the end credits of a cartoon, as the channels change. I’d also like
to bookend the ads in an intro and outro that would show the camera panning
through an 80s style living room and to an old school TV, where the ads will
appear, in an attempt to add the cosy atmosphere of someone flicking through
the TV. Alongside the finished film I’d like to present a physical action figure of
Ed and one of the Martian Madmen alongside trading cards and a comic, of a
VHS case.

Context: I feel the project would be a great way of demonstrating my

character and toy design skills as well as world building, while being wrapped
up in the package of a film aimed at perfectly replicating a particular niche, in
this case being a fake toy line, ad, cereal etc. Id aim to have it be a showcase
for the toy industry and show the transition of a design toy to a physical
product. I aim for it to be an impressive unique film that gets me where I want
to be!

The Technology: The pipeline would the design process on a mix of procreate
on my iPad and photoshop. I’d use Autodesk Maya to do the model work and
animation and finish with the editing and effects work in premier and
aftereffects.
Submission: For my Minor Submission I’d plan to submit the finalised design
work and branding and a majority of the model work, with a start on my
physical toy.

December 1st-6th: Continued Final Design Work

December 7st-13th: Continued Final Design Work

December 14th- January 8th: Model Work

January 9th-25th: Continued Model and design work/ whatever need be at the
time.
