Conditions for storing samples for Microbiological investigation

1. Serology( extract serum) Store at Refrigerator(2-8°C)
DO NOT KEEP IN
FREEZER/CHILLER
2. Blood culture bottle Store at incubator/Room
Temperature
3. Urine culture Add 5-6 drops boric acid(from
Biochemistry lab) and Store at room
temperature
4. Stool (microscopic) Send immediately.
For longer period add formalin
twice its volume and keep at Room
temperature
5. CSF Room temperature(H.influenzae
needs immediate transport to
laboratory)
6. Body fluids Room temperature/Longer time
above 12 hours keep in
refrigerator(2-8°C)
7. Pus keep in transport media/Room
temperature
8. Catheter Room temperature/Longer time
above 12 hours keep at
refrigerator(2-8°C)
9. Sputum Room temperature
