People have enjoyed keeping domestic dogs as pets for a very long time.
Dogs are often called people´s best friends. There are many kinds of dogs and
they are popular all over the world. Over time some dog breeds
have changed. These changes happened both naturally and
because people bred them for different purposes. Poodles are
good working dogs because they are smart and strong.

Italian Greyhounds were popular with kings and queens

in Europe a long time ago because they could warm beds.
People didn´t have electricity then, so the castles were
cold!

A hundred years ago farmers used to like Jack Russell Terriers

because these dogs chased rats and mice away. This was very useful on
the farm. Jack Russell Terriers are small, but they are one of the most
hard-working breeds.
