NATURAL SCIENCE

Plants are living things. Plants are born, they grow, they reproduce and they
die. Plants need water, air, sunlight, soil and warmth to grow well.

PARTS OF THE PLANT

Plants have leaves, roots, a stem and flowers. The roots take in the water from the
soil. The stem supports the plant. The leaves take in air and sunlight. Plants make
their own food.
Seeds grow inside fruit. Fruit protects the seeds. Animals eat fruit and throw the
seeds away. New plants grow from the seeds.

Some plants have seeds that blow away in the wind. Some plants have seeds that
are moved by animals. Humans also need to plant seeds to obtain food, to reforest,
etc.

TYPES OF PLANTS

There are many different plants all around us. There are:

Trees are plants with a thick, hard stem called a trunk. Trees have branches,
leaves and twigs. Some trees have flowers and fruit. Trees have a lot of roots.
Deciduous trees lose their leaves in autumn. Evergreen trees have green leaves all
year.

Bushes are plants with a lot of stems and leaves.

Grass is a plant. It is thin and bendy.

SOCIAL SCIENCE

WATER

You can find water in three different forms: liquid, solid and gas. Water is a liquid,
ice is a solid and water vapour is a gas.
Water turns to water vapour when it is hot. Water turns to ice when it is very cold.
Water is a liquid at room temperature.

THE WATER CYCLE

The water cycle is a continuous process of evaporation, condensation,

precipitation and collection. When it is hot, water from the sea evaporates. The
water vapour condenses into tiny drops and forms clouds. When the clouds are cold,
it rains or snows. The rain or snow falls into the sea. This is the water cycle.

ALL ABOUT AIR

Air is a mixture of gases. We cannot see air but it is all around us. People and
animals breathe oxygen from the air. All living things need air to live.
