RUN-ON SENTENCES
RUN-ON SENTENCES
-are sentences having two or
more clauses not connected by
the correct conjunction or
punctuation.
 TYPES OF RUN-ON SENTENCES

1. FUSED SENTENCES
-two or more
independent clauses "run Example:
together with no It is raining we need
punctuation to take an umbrella
with us.

2. COMMA SPLICES
-two complete
sentences are joined with Example:
only a comma. It is raining, we need
to take an umbrella
with us.
 CORRECTING RUN-ON
SENTENCES
1. Separate the two sentences
by a period(.). Make sure to
capitalize the beginning letter
of the sentence.
 Example:
Run-on

The child has severe

cold she sneezed

2. Use a comma(,) and a
coordinating conjunction
(FANBOYS) to connect the two
independent sentences.
 Example:

3. Use a semicolon (;) to
separate the two thoughts.
 Example:

4. Transform any of the two
sentences to a subordinate
clause.
 Example:

 Comment YES if the
sentence is a run-on
sentence and NO if it is not
a run-on sentence.
