TITLE: “Formulation of Liquid Organic Fertilizer from Pomacea canaliculata (Golden

Apple Snail) and its effect on sandy loam soil”

OBJECTIVE: test for the nutrient content in GAS LOF and control LF;

: assess the difference between the nutrient content in the GAS LOF and the
control LF;

: identify the nutrient content, pH, organic matter, texture, water holding
capacity, and moisture content in GAS LOF-exposed, control LF-exposed, and unexposed
soil, and;

: compare the nutrient content pH, organic matter, texture, water holding
capacity, and moisture content in GAS LOF-exposed, control LF-exposed and unexposed
soil

METHODOLOGY: 1. Sample collection and preparation

2. Preparation of minced P. canaliculata

3. Fermentation of P. canaliculata

4. Formulation of Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF)

5. Preparation for soil analysis

6. Analysis of macronutrient content in LOF

7. Soil analysis

8. Statistical analysis
FINDINGS: The Golden Apple Snail (GAS) Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) has minimal
nutrient content compared to the control LF and generally contributes to the nutrient
content and characteristics of the soil to varying degrees. The macronutrient content of
the GAS LOF is comparably lower than the control LF. This data suggests that LOF
created from GAS is not a nitrogen-rich fertilizer as expected by the high content of
organic matter (Nargis et al., 2012). Alternatively, the GAS LOF displayed high levels of
manganese which may still be an efficient fertilizer when applied to the appropriate
plants. This may be more effective for manganese-deficient plants such as cabbage
(Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, 2010).

RECCOMENDATION: For further research pertaining to this topic, it is suggested that the
soil samples be collected from various locations so that the effects may be tested on
different types of soil. More samples may also be included for testing in order to attain
statistically analyzed data. The GAS LOF may also be applied to plants so that the effects
on these may be observed and quantified. This study may also be improved with better
allocation of time for analysis.
