Both the
Vai??avas and Sa?kara have faith that the spiritual substance is
distinct from the gross and subtle bodies in the material world.
They have no difference concerning the existence of jiva. Giving
up the relationship with the material world is called mukti
(liberation) for both parties. Up to the point of attaining mukti,
Sa?kara is in agreement with the Vai??ava-acaryas. Sa?kara also
teaches that by worshipping the Lord one attains purity of mind
and liberation. Sa?kara remains silent on the extraordinary
goal of the jiva after attaining liberation. Sa?kara understood
very well that when he could encourage the jiva on the path
to liberation by worshipping the Lord, gradually the jiva would
easily start the worship of the Lord and attain pure bhakti. Thus
Sa?kara, having shown the path, did not reveal the Vai??ava
secret further. Those who deeply study Sa?karas commentaries
will understand his deeper intention. Those who simply spend
their time accepting his external portion remain far away from
pure Vai??ava dharma.
