Once Fiona's roots were strong enough and she was healthy
enough, she produced a STEM. She decided that she didn't like
where she was. She still loved her flower bed but she hadn't seen
the sun in a very long time so she wanted to get back to the
surface. Fiona pushed her stem up and up until she finally reached
the surface.
Fiona's stem reached the
surface and she was
overjoyed! She could feel
the fresh air and the cool
mist and, most importantly,
the warmth of the sun on
her leaves!
From that day forward all of the bees and birds were
interested in her flowers! They would come over and
smell them and tell her how pretty they were. Little
did they know that Fiona's flowers actually produce
little seeds of their own!
So every time one of the birds or the bees came and
sniffed Fiona they accidentally picked up some seeds
just like Fiona used to be! These birds and bees would
fly all around town with Fiona's little seeds on their
feet and would drop them into flower beds of their
own.
The birds and bees picking up the seeds and dropping them
in other places is a process called pollination! This process
is one of the most important things in the world for
keeping plants alive and reproducing.
Fiona grew up and grew old after many many years in her flower
bed. She produced many flowers through hot summers and cold
winters. She made friends with many bees and many birds.
Eventually Fiona began to very tired and started to slump over
as many plants do.
Fiona realized that she was getting tired and she had enjoyed her
time in the flower bed. She loved all of the flowers and seeds she
produced, she loved all of the friends that she had made but she
knew that it was her time to go.
