We are going to listen to a conversation about patient detail information. There are probably two

We can only write a word or a number in each gap for each question.

We take some time to read quickly through the diagram and underline some key words. After that,
we guest what part of speech and what words we will expected to hear. We find the synonyms and
antonyms of the key words, so we can keep in track with the recording and the answers easily.

6. Identify the part of speech that fits in each gap grammatically and write them down in the second
column of the table below.
7. Predict the answer for questions 1-10 using your own word/ words, which is logically and
grammatically correct? Please write these words in the column headed ‘ Your prediction’

 - First, we will scan the information on the page and think about the context.
- Secondly, we underline the keywords in the questions that helps us find the right answers.
( eg: we underline these word in question 12: 1982, castle, sold to)
– Note, underline the differences between the options given (eg: in question 14, we have: 800
year-old tree, art exhibition and small zoo)
– Predict the answers and think of synonyms. Expect to hear all the answer options in the
recording, not just the correct answers. We will have to listen very carefully to determine if
each answer is or is not correct. Synonyms will definitely be used for some of the words, so
scan the list and see if you can quickly think of any synonyms or related words. (eg: in
question 11, option C, speaker can say a fire destroyed....instead of damage)
4. Should you try to find the paraphrases and synonyms when you listen to the recording?

2. TEAM WORK REFLECTION (4 points)

a. What is the working process of your group? (1 point)

Firstly, we discussed and answered the questions which relate to the pre-listening and we shared tips,
methods which we know for the others. We also looked up dictionaries and explained to other
members the words that they did not know the meanings. We underlined the key words, thought
about the synonyms, predicted the parts of speech that fit the grammar,...

Secondly, we listened each section, each member in group all wrote their own answers. Then, we
shared our answers, if there had any answers that all 4 members of the group is the same, we would
write the answers to the report. If someone had any different answers with the others, we would
mark it to check again in the second listening. Before listening again, we re-discussed vocabulary,
the context of the recording and the listening tips we thought it would effective while listening.

Thirdly, then we listened to the recording again together and take-note the parts which we need to
answers the remaining questions in the report. After that, we listened the third time to make sure that
all of the members could get their own answers and to make sure that we had all of information for
the report. Then, we synthesized our team members' opinions and finalized the report.

b. What is the role of each member? (0.5 point)

Because all members in the group listened all the sections equally. and we also discussed together to
write the report, our roles in this log are quite the same. We helped and supported each other.

However, Thi is the leader and she has divided the order in which the work is carried out (eg we should
do what before listening, after liastening), she helps the teamwork to be more organized and efficient.

Because Long is the best listener in the group, so he plays the main role of helping and supporting the
others (For example:sharing his experience, explaining the difficult parts).

Giang and Tai take note and synthesized of the results as well as the opinions of the group members.

c. Complete the following table (1.5 points)

WHAT WE DID AS A GROUP ARE THEY EFFECTIVE ?

Please specify the activities (Yes/ Why?) ///// (No/ Why not?)

Pre- - Read the intruction carefully and Yes. It helps us understand what we
listening discussed what kind of answers is are going to hear, prepare our mind,
needed and what information to listen focus and easier in choosing answers
for. while listening

- Underline the key words together,

and predicted the possible form of the
answers.

- Analysed answers choices and note

differences.

While - Listened carefully to the introduction Yes. It helps us not to get confused
listening and from the introductory information, when choosing the answer.
note who the speakers are, their
relationship and the context or
situation. -If we miss an answer, we can rely on
- Take-note important information the information we have to choose the
suitable answer.

Post - Checked answers together, discussed -Identify what are the problems of
listening problems that group members still had each members easily due to the
before listening again and completed support of the others in group and easy
the report to find the ways to improve our
listening skill.
-Made a list of new vocabulary and
sent it to each members.
d. What are some difficulties that you might have while working as a group? (0.5 point)

After sharing the answers, we realized that sometimes our answers are not the same. (for example: question
16-20 of section 2, the order of everyone's responses in this section is somewhat different).

Everyone has their own explanation for their answer so we sometimes argue with each other.

Because we had to discussion about answers to find the correct answers, so it took us a lot of time.

Since each team member's level is not the same, for the weaker members, we had to take more time to
explain and give advice to them.

e. Who needs help in the listening? What kind of help did he/she receive from other members?(0.5 point)

Giang and Tai sometimes need help in the listening because in the first time listening, they missed some
important information so they panic and finally they couldn’t follow the recording and found the answer.

We helped them by talking again about the context of the recording, explain and gave them the meaning
of the words they didn’t know. We also advised them to focus more on the key words regarding the
answer, and tried not to panic when they missed answers. Finally, we listened again, and after they knew
the answers we discussed the main points of the recording again so that they could understand better.

3. PERSONAL REFLECTION (2 points; 0.5 each)

1. What we found most interesting/useful (please specify them)

Thi and Long found section 2 is the most useful and interesting because the conservation
is quite easy to listen and understand. In addtion, it is very useful because we learned how
to introduce a tourist destination to the tourists. Perhaps it will help us in our future work,
especially with jobs which relate to tourism.
Giang and Tai found section 4 is the most useful and interesting because they can
broaden their knowledge in a new field such as marine renewable energy. They learned
more about the interesting things that they did not know before listening this section.

2. What we learned from the practice? (please specify them)

After practicing:
+ We learned the form of IELTS listening test
+ We learned some useful tips and skills from the others about some tips before
listening and while listening the recording. For example, underline the key words,
read the questions carefully, or find the paraphrases and synonyms before
listening, listen the record carefully, especially the passages that can help us find
the answer,...
+ We learned new vocabularies about many topics that are interesting and close to
our daily life
+ We learned how to pronounce new words and correct words that we pronounce
wrong.

3. What we found most difficult (please specify them)

-We found that the most difficult is that there are many distractors words/phrases. The
speaker will mention all the answers, but if we don't listen carefully, we can easily choose
the wrong answer. (For example: section 2).
In addition, section 4 has many new words and this academic topic is not very close to us,
so in the first listening we missed a few answers because we did not catch up with what
the speaker said.
- We sometimes still couldn't listen clearly what the speakers said because it was a little
bit hard to listen to their accents

4. What we intend to do to handle our problems

(please specify them)
- Trying not to panic when we miss some information or when the speakers speak
quickly.
-Practicing listening about different situations and topics every day.
-Practicing the IELTS Listening Test by using the official IELTS website, IELTS
books,...
- Practicing by watching English movies, listening to English podcasts, news, radio,
music,...
- Learning new words on many topics and pay attention to their pronunciation every day.
