Energy Demand of Italy

Bianco, Vincenzo & Scarpa, Federico & Tagliafico, Luca A.. (2015). Long term outlook of
primary energy consumption of the Italian thermoelectric sector: Impact of fuel and
carbon prices. Energy. 87. 10.1016/j.energy.2015.04.097.

The purpose of the current research is to assess the potential consumption of primary
energy in the Italian thermal energy sector. Research on primary energy use in the Italian energy
sector in the literature is not available, considering its relevance in the European context. In order
to bridge these differences, a descriptive study of the power generating industry is therefore
proposed in order to forecast potential energy balance and the trend in power prices, by moving
any single thermal plant and taking into account its key characteristics (e.g. maximum power,
minimum stable levels, reliability etc.). An advancement of the production vessel is based on
knowledge from numerous sources available and a model by plant competition will take place up
to 2022. In terms of primary energy consumption, the implications of multiple fuel and carbon
pricing scenarios are analyzed.

Magazzino, Cosimo. (2014). Energy consumption and GDP in Italy: cointegration and causality
analysis. Environment Development and Sustainability. 17. 10.1007/s10668-014-9543-8.

This article aimed to analyze, using a time series method, empirical proof of the relation
among GDP and energy usage in Italy over the 1970-2009 period. Following a short
introduction, an economic literature survey is presented on this topic before the data are
discussed and also some econometric techniques added. Maintain a stable display either non-
static or (1) sequence of tests. Moreover the two factors have a co-integration relationship. The
short-term dynamic of variables demonstrate that the causal flow from energy consumption to
GDP, and the two series have a long-lasting bi-directional causal relationship (or feedback
effect). We thus assume that energy in Italy is a restricting factor in GDP growth and that energy
saving policies should be wisely devised and enforced.
