Education is a process which allows individuals to gain position in the society. Students
nowadays search not only for academic input which is taught in books inside the classroom
but also for the kind of knowledge that helps them in their everyday life activities and push
them to try new things and gain more experiences in order to grow up independently and
purposefully. This knowledge or life skills as educators call them are set to be very important
as they allow students to adapt to any situation and push them to overcome the challenges
they will face in the future. Students can use their knowledge at school to push through their
everyday life, languages for example, can be taught as life skills because they give students
many abilities to face unexpected dilemmas. Thus, personally i do believe that languages
especially English can be taught as life skills.

English can link schools to real life situations. Life skills are abilities that we use to deal
effectively with our everyday life at school, work, or even at home. English, for that matter,
teach students interactive skills which are the basis for all relationships in the society. It
teaches them how to communicate, persuade, and even share with others. EFL students can
acquire how to give their opinion and to be tolerate to others' opinions and criticism. Also,
they learn how to adopt critical thinking and use it in their personal life. English can teach
them to be creative and to assess analytically. Teachers of English have the responsibility to
help students acquire these life skills through English. They need to prepare students for the
changing world and tech them to be autonomous in order to prove themselves among
individuals and in their societies.

As a conclusion, English plays an important role in helping students acquire life skills and
abilities which allow them to know what they are capable of and to face any problem with
self-confidence and maturity. EFL students can use these life skills to improve their life,
interact fairly with others, build strong bonds and engage in the society they live in.
