SCOPE
This GENERAL NS-1™ specifies the minimum quality and inspection requirements to be applied in the manufac-
ture of wrought Low Alloy Steel Single Component (one piece) Subsurface Tubing Accessories.
It applies to:

• Flow Couplings, Blast Joints and Crossovers.

• NON-SOUR service conditions, employing low alloy steel (e.g. 41XX).
• All sizes and Rated Working Pressure of 20.7 MPa (3,000 psi) through 103.4 MPa (15,000 psi) inclusive.
• Equipment with Rated Working Pressures of 69 MPa (10,000 psi) and above, should meet the requirements
of NACE MR-01-75 as standard practice. Use NS-1™ Specification NS 00.35.00.1111.

Design verification, approval and other design related parameters are specifically excluded from this NS-1™.

SUPPLEMENTARY REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements are supplementary to and shall be applied in conjunction with the quality sub-
specifications called out in the matrix of this NS-1™ Specification.

1. WELDING
No fabrication welding shall be performed.
No repair welding shall be performed.

2. MATERIAL TESTING
(Ref. Sub-Spec. 10.1 & Sub-Spec. 10.4)
2.1 Chemical Analysis
Chemical analysis shall be carried out on a heat basis demonstrating conformance to the
manufacturer’s applicable material specification for all elements contained therein.

2.2 Mechanical Testing

Mechanical testing to ASTM A370 shall, as a minimum, establish yield strength, tensile strength,
elongation and reduction in area on a heat basis, representative of any heat treatment that may have
been applied.

3. HYDROSTATIC TESTING
(Ref. Sub-Spec. 100.2)
3.1 The hydrostatic test pressure shall be calculated by applying a fibre stress value of at least 80% of
the specified minimum yield strength.

3.2 Where the test pressure is limited by the threaded end connections, it shall be calculated using the
following formula:

P = (2 • f • Yp • t) / D

Where:
P = hydrostatic test pressure, in (MPa)
f = a factor of 0.8 of specified minimum yield strength
Yp = specified yield strength for the pipe body (MPa)
t = nominal design wall thickness adjacent to thread connection (mm)
D = nominal outside diameter of the connecting thread (mm)

3.3 As a minimum, the hydrostatic test pressure shall not be less than the equipment rated working
pressure.

3.4 Test pressure shall be held for not less than five seconds. Ten percent (10%) of the order quantity,
with a minimum of one (1) shall be held at test pressure for not less than ten (10) minutes.

The timing of the holding periods shall not start until the test pressure has stabilized, the equipment
and measuring devices have been isolated from the pressure source and the external surfaces of the
equipment thoroughly dried.

3.5 There shall be no leakage or reduction in indicated pressure.
