For more than 30 years now, the Golf GTI has been the embodiment of sportiness and superior driving dynamics.

For the first time, it is now available in two performance levels. The newly developed turbo TSI direct petrol
injection engine with 162 kW in combination with a 6-speed manual gearbox, and a reduction in weight of all
assembly groups have allowed the fuel consumption to be reduced by 18% compared to its predecessor.

The TSI engine has a maximum power of 169 kW in the GTI “Performance”.

The equipment featured in the new Golf GTD and its sporty tuning are based on the Golf GTI 2013.
The power output of the latest generation of four cylinder TDI engines is 135 kW. In combination with a
6-speed manual gearbox, the average fuel consumption is equivalent to 4.2 l per 100 kilometres and the CO2
emissions equivalent to 109 g/km.
The two resulting vehicles represent sportiness, dynamics and innovation, as well as economic efficiency and

The Car-Net in the Golf GTI/GTD 2013

For the very first time, Volkswagen is launching the so-called mobile online services with the Golf GTI/GTD 2013.
Volkswagen has consolidated these mobile online services under the term Car-Net.

The term Car-Net refers to the use of online-based data for certain applications, or so-called services. They can be
provided for a variety of application areas. These include e.g. infotainment, navigation, service, electric mobility or
safety.
A number of these services have already been used in the Phaeton, for example the navigation system supported
by satellite images, based on Google Earth® and an online-based point of interest search.

In future, the scope of services will be expanded along with the number of vehicle models which support Car-Net.
The first four services are currently available for the Golf GTI/GTD 2013:

• Traffic Information Online

• Online point of interest search
• Google Earth®
• Google Street View®

Prerequisites for the use of Car-Net in the Golf GTI/GTD 2013
To ensure online information can be transmitted to the vehicle directly, certain prerequisites must be satisfied. The
following equipment features are required for the use of Car-Net:
• the radio navigation system “Discover Pro” with “Premium” mobile telephone interface
• a Car-Net licence

The Car-Net licence is required to be able to use the available data. It must be selected with the vehicle
configuration, and is automatically activated and linked to the vehicle once the vehicle has been manufactured.

Along with the prerequisites the vehicle must satisfy, the user also requires a mobile telephone connection. A data-
capable SIM card is required. This must be provided by the customer, by means of a corresponding mobile phone
contract. The SIM card can be used in one of two ways:
• via a Bluetooth-enabled mobile telephone which supports the “remote SIM Access Profile” (rSAP) or
• via the SIM card slot of the “Discover Pro”

Both when the SIM card or rSAP coupling is used, the data is transmitted via the integrated telephone module in
control unit 1 for information electronics J794 and the GSM external aerial R205. The second (2G GSM) and third

Car-Net mobile online services for Europe

The mobile online services will initially be available in the European countries listed below. Once used for the first
time, the services “Online point of interest search” and “Google Earth®” will be available for all of the countries
listed.
The use of “Traffic Information Online” and “Google Street View®” is staggered differently (see table for
availability). The Car-Net services remain valid for at least 36 months after vehicle manufacture.

Online point of interest search

The online point of interest search is an enhancement

to the standard point of interest search. The online
service Google Places® is used as a search machine.
The validity of the Car-Net licence is also verified
using a backend system in this case.

Using online search results has several advantages

compared to the previous point of interest search. The
most important advantages are the free selection of
search criteria and current results.
For example, key terms may be used during the input s521_076
