Topic/ Issue/ Problem
Kenneth A. Gomez & Sons is an insurance company located in Royal Palm Place, in Friar’s Hill
Road. Due to the owner’s preference the software has stayed the same for a long time, this is
because it was thought that employees would be more efficient if they were familiar with the
software. Recently the company has undergone an update in software and upgrades in hardware.
Consequently the employees are not familiar with the new equipment and this has caused heavy
impact on efficiency and overall working speed.

Objectives
To identify how to restore the company back to its former efficiency and profitability. Along
with identifying the proper training that the employee’s need, to once again, gain confidence and
familiarity to the new equipment.

Background/ Overview
The Kenneth A. Gomez & Sons insurance was established in 1956, providing a wide range of
insurance services to the people of Antigua & Barbuda. Located in Friar’s Hill Road, St. Johns
Antigua. The original owner passes down the company to his respective beneficiary after he
passed on, Ms. Noreen Gomez. The problem lays within said person’s charge, it was believed
that if the employees kept the same software, their efficiency would always be optimal, as they
are familiar with it. However technology advanced and has proven that even more efficient, and
optimal software would actually improve their stats. Consequently after the sudden change from
software of 2007 to current day’s software, has been a major impact on efficiency, employees are
working slower as they lack confidence and affinity.

Methodology
 Data Collection Strategies: The data purposed for this SBA was collected by
Interviews with the owner, and Observation Schedule which was collected while I was
present during their workdays.
 Data Collection Instruments: Interviews, Observations.
 Type of Data Collected: Quantitative, Qualitative.
 Method of Presentation: Graphs, Charts.
 Method of Analysis: Mean, Mode.
 Limitations: Some information was classified to the public, so there was a small rage of data that was
possible to obtain, therefore some data is close to, but not exactly accurate.

How did you get started in this business?
-My family has always leaned towards the business side of things, and this gave me a big
lead on what I wanted to do.
How did you get the background and skills necessary to run this type of business?
-I studied abroad in Canada
How do the social, economic, environmental, technological, legal and political environments
impact your business?
-Here in Antigua most of our clients are here because of our relationship we have with
every individual one of them, and if any of those prospects change it would have a big impact in
our ways
How do you market your business? How are people aware of your business?
-We just have some ads on social media and some billboards around town, and that
does for our exposure program
Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years? The next ten years?
Probably struggling a little as the most recent times are not ideal, but most likely, in the
next few years we will start to recover again.
How has technology, such as computers and the internet, impacted on how you conduct
business?
-We really haven’t focused on technology until four years ago, when one of our
employees suggested we update our hardware.
+So has this issue been solved yet?
-There is some problems we still have, according to making everyone get used to the
update, and to get our now obsolete way of working to a more efficient one.
Does your business have a stated mission statement, the reason that this business exists?
We see that in the common public service of insurance it is hard to get a fair deal, so we
try to make it as good for the client as it is for us.
What is your management style?
-I am pretty flexible and understanding, as long as the work get done in time.

Observations:
-Because they were falling behind in terms of technology, with made us slightly more efficient than
other companies.
-Our company is affiliate to others; sow have to stay on par
-An early version of Applied
-used to have Windows 2009
-Applied Epic
-now have the latest windows

-thy were already familiar with the programs and thy thought that to wait would do them greater
harm than good, and that it would be too much trouble.
Is the change in software the only problem you are having due to upgrades?
-No, our filing system is having an update as well
-The files are going to entered checked and kept not just physically but also digitally, to avoid extra
trips to the file room and save time
-The files are entered manually on an excel workbook
-The workbooks only have some data from the files, not the entire file

Conclusion
In conclusion, the Insurance service provider has issues with the new software as much as hardware and
getting to become more flexible and confident in the use of this program. This has greatly affected
productivity, and overall efficiency to get work done. This has been a major issue as not just the supervisor or
manager have ben aware of this, but external entities can notice as well.

Recommendations
TH best path to follow would be to engage in a course to learn the new software, either an assisted class or
an online course. This also could go along with trying to use and familiarize with the new software, as this can
increase fluidity in terms of operating the program.
