Question No 1: [8+4]

We know a single server queue has two types of events: Arrival and Departure. Suppose a
single server model has been built with LIFO queue and has the following Q(t) vs t Graph.
Simulation end at t = 8.1

I. Find Expected Number of Customers in the queue from the given Q(t) vs t graph.
II. Fill up the following Table using the given data: (Three have been filled up already. Fill
up the remaining)
III.
Customer Arrival Time Service Delay= Service End Service Time=
no Start Time Service Start Time Service End Time
Time-Arrival - Service Start
Time Time

1 0.6 0.6 0 2.6 2.0

2 1.2

3 2.1 3.3 1.2 4.2 0.9

4 2.4 2.6 0.2 3.3 0.7

5 5.4

6 6.2

IV. Draw B(t) vs t graph for the above simulation. Find out the expected utilization of the
server.

Question No 2: [3+5]
Suppose we need to simulate a bank system. The bank has multiple booths. When a customer
arrives at the bank if any booth is free he/she can take service from that booth. Otherwise,
he/she will have to stand in the queue which has the minimum queue length. He/she cannot
change the queue line in the middle. Service time of each customer will be taken randomly.
a) Write the name of the variables and events you need to simulate this system.
b) Discuss whether the simulation should be i) static or dynamic, ii) deterministic or
stochastic, and iii) continuous or discrete. Write down the appropriate reasons.
