INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND OF DIRECTOR MISSION

A director of Mission is someone who charged with the responsibility to mobilize the activities
of the mission work and has the key to opening the door for cross- cultural and global mission.
He has a vital link between the Local Church, Mission Agencies, the Missionary and the Church
Overseas. As with all key ministry roles play by director of mission, it is important for him as a
person to be able to serve God faithfully by believing that he would impact the knowledge of
God to his subject, the mission field. He’s also fully integrated into the Church Leadership
structure. Director of Mission need to have a team work with his subordinate in other to carry
out the task successfully. Due to the vast amount of work that the ministry area can entail, the
Mission Director is mostly effective when they are freed from other major Church
responsibilities and work as part of a team. This simply means that the Mission Director seek to
develop, lead and be supported by a mission committee when striving to undertake the list of
his responsibilities. In a nutshell, a Director of Mission play a vital roles in monitoring and
organizing a support to various Mission through the Local Church support and individual
donor’s both in cash or in kind in other to bring more joy to the missionaries to be able to listen
to the words of God without any interference. Mobilization is often used exclusively in
reference to recruiting potential cross- cultural missionaries who will be able to deliver the
assign duty impose on them. It’s also refers to the intentional process of inspiring, equipping
and sending out of all Christians to effectively and consciously engage in God’s global mission
wherever they may live, work, serve or worship.
DEFINATION OF TERMS

1. MISSIONARY/MISSIONARIES:- This is a person or family who has been commissioned by


their sending Church(es) and or mission agency to be explicitly dedicated to the work of
cross- cultural ministry. It’s indicates someone who is gifted, set apart and trained or
prepared for cross- cultural service and so serves a particular role in the global body of
Christ. Every followers of Jesus is called to be his witness wherever they are, some are
specifically lead to cross- cultural and geographical boundaries to share the gospel with
those who could otherwise not comprehend its message.

2. MOBILIZE/ MOBILIZATION:- This is an exclusively reference to recruiting , promoting and


encouraging young potential cross-cultural missionaries, who refers to the intentional
process of inspiring, equipping and sending out of such charismatic class in other to
effectively and consciously engage in God’s global mission wherever they may live, work ,
serve and worship God wholeheartedly.

3. DIRECTOR:- This refers to someone who controls resources and expenditures for the
organizations. In other words, it’s refers to someone who supervises the actors and directs
the action in the production or a show. It can also refers to someone who lead the
Congregation to Christ.

4. CHRIST:-Simply refers to a Teacher and Prophet born in Bethlehem and active in Nazareth;
his life and Sermons form the basis for Christianity. He’s also refers to a deliverer, redeemer,
Savior or Messiah of the world who come to take away our sins and to redeem us back to
God as his Children’s.
ROLES PLAY AS A DIRECTOR OF MISSION TO
INCREASE THE FOCUS OF MISSION IN MY CHURCH.
1. Being the link. As a director of Mission who’s saddle with the responsibility to link with the
Local Church, Mission agencies and individual Missionaries/ projects for the success of the
mission work. I will appoint others to serve in that capacity in other to bring division of labour
among us. They shall head the various mission field and report to me all their achievement and
difficulties that they may pass through.

2. Stimulating Interest. In a mission generally and in the work of some Missionaries/ agencies in
particular, I will involve people in line with their gifts for the work of God. I will also mentoring
potentials cross- cultural workers and mobilizers, in the field.

3. Caring for Missionaries on the Job. It’s my responsibility to care for the missionaries who have
offer themselves for the work, to make sure that their welfare are well taking care off. This can
be done through home assignment or during transition periods.

4. Advising. I will always make sure that I advise the Church on the right direction mostly on
selections of members for the task of being a missionaries workers, projects and budgets by
checking annually the support levels for missionary and projects, by considering factors such as
inflation and personal circumstances. Through identifying individuals/ couples/ families for the
preparation or selection as missionaries. Writing and offering to Church leadership concerning
the mission policy.

5. Informing. It’s always my duty to inform the Church about the missionaries on mission
opportunities/ needs through training in various fields in different areas. This can be done by
requesting a regular space in the Church bulletin or magazine by using it imaginatively. By
distributing missionary prayers letters or emails and events brochures promptly to the various
Churches. Presenting regular reports on support levels for missionaries and it’s projects, and on
the Church’s overall mission engagement. Promoting the mission awareness and events
through the Church’s website and social media as well. Maintaining an attractive and current
mission display board in a prominent place like photos, maps, factsheets/ information booklets,
my contact details as a director of mission, list of mission opportunities and their current needs.
Stocking the Church bookshelves/bookstall with up to dates mission biographies, Bible studies
on missionaries well as our prayer line. To write book reviews on these items and present them
to the service mission spots or Church bulletin. By ensuring missionaries to receive the
opportunities to share their experiences and needs with the Church e.g. in services, small groups
or a Church programs.
6. Keeping up to date news. This can be done in line with what is happening in particular parts of
the world that are relevant to the Church’s specific interest or needs. It can be done by
attending mission conferences and mission agency events. By maintaining awareness through
books, online subscriptions and the media.

7. Sharing of mission prayer news. As a mission director, I will always requesting and organizing a
mission spot in services. I will always providing the mission prayer points for Pastoral,
Congregation as well as Intercessory prayer times. By coordinating and informing prayer support
during Bible Study groups or the Church prayer meetings. By encouraging the Sunday Schools
and Youth groups to pray for missionaries and world mission needs.

8. Organizing. To make sure I organized the annual mission Calendar and specific mission events
for a special or regular mission prayer meetings. For mission to expose the Church to a variety of
mission agencies and opportunities. For fundraising events for a specific projects or needs. For
mission workshops/ conferences/ seminars. As guest speakers or Preachers for services,
programs or small groups like missionaries or agency representatives. To focus on mission
weekends or months.
CONCLUSION

The work of a Director is a fantastic job that is recommended for all believers to carry on, this shall be
a people’s who are sound in Christ by living a faithful life before him (God) and follow his directive as
well. It’s a task that require experience people who have been the field or had a similar experience in
other to deliver the task, it also need Patient, humbleness and endurance when being the Director in
other to be able to succeed on the task that has place on your care.

I wish that believers will be glad as to carry on this task by channeling the gospel’s to the unbelievers
who are yet to reconcile with Christ to make him their personal LORD and Savior. Pray for God
Protection upon our Lives as we offer ourselves for the work, that we may not labour in vain but will
received the Crown of life on the last day.
