completely about the (4 marks)

3. A firm makes two products SIMPLE and COMPLEX and has a total production capacity of 9

tons per day, the two products require the same production capacity. The firm has a permanent

contract to supply at least 2 tons of SIMPLE and at least 3 tons of COMPLEX per day to another

company. Each tone of SIMPLE requires 20 machine hours of production time and each tone of

COMPLEX requires 50 machine hours of production time. The daily maximum possible number

of machine hours is 360. All the firm’s output can be sold and the profit made is sh80,000 per

ton of SIMPLE and sh 120,000 per ton of COMPLEX.

(a) Determine the production schedule for maximum profit

(b) Calculate the maximum profit. (10 marks )

4. (a) The mean and standard deviation of 20 observations are found to be 10 and 2
respectively. On rechecking, it was found that an observation 8 was incorrect. Calculate the
correct mean and standard deviation if the wrong item is replaced by 12. (03 marks)
(b) A group frequency distribution of the ages of employees at a certain industry is shown
as follows:
Age in years 16 – 20 21 – 25 26 – 30 31 – 35 36 – 40 41 – 45 46 – 50 51 – 55
Number of 36 56 58 52 46 38 36 36
employees
i. Calculate the mean and standard deviation by using the coding method where A=33.
ii. Calculate the mode and median. (07 marks )

(b) Out of 100 people who voted in the election, 7 have voted for JAVA and MAX, 15 for PIRE
and MAX, 10 for PIRE and JAVA and 5 all the three parties. 10 have voted for PIRE only
and equal numbers have voted for MAX only and for JAVA only. Use a Venn diagram to
find how many have voted for:-
i. JAVA altogether
ii. MAX and PIRE but not JAVA
iii. PIRE or JAVA but not MAX
iv. At most one party. (06 marks)
