2. Answer all questions in section A and two (2) questions from section B.

SECTION A (60 MARKS)
1. (a) Find the number of arrangements of the letters of the word ASSASSINATION. How many

(d) A tank contains 100 litres of water made by dissolving 60kg of salt in water. Salt water
containing 1 kg of salt per litre runs in at the rate 2 litres per minute and the mixture kept
uniform by stirring runs out at the rate 3 litres per minute. Initially there are 60 kg of salt in
the tank.
(i) Find the amount of salt in the tank at any time t
(ii) Find the amount of salt in the tank at the end of one hour. (07 marks)

8. (a) Sketch the graph of (04 marks)

(b) For the conic Find:-

(i) The foci (ii) The vertices (iii) The directrices (iv) The asymptote. Hence, sketch the graph.

(c) If the distribution of weight is uniform, then the rope of the suspended bridge takes the form
of a parabola. The height of the supporting towers is 40 metres, the distance between the
tower is 300 metres and the height of the lowest point of the rope from the road is 6 metres.
(i) Find the equation of the parabolic shape of the rope considering the floor of the
bridge as x-axis and the axis of the parabola as y-axis.
(ii) Find the height of that tower which supports the rope and is at a distance of 60
meters from the centre of the rope (06 marks)
(d) Transform the polar equation into rectangular coordinates and sketch the

graph of the resulting rectangular equation (04 marks)
