1. INTRODUCTION
Generally, this document is developed as a method to be used in order to carry out sectional
patch repair of Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) sewage pipe.

3. PIPE PATCH REPAIR WORK PROCEDURES

3.1 Prior to commencing patch repair work, section to patch shall be free from live
sewage flow. Bypass pumping will be carried out by using a suitable pneumatic plug
which will be inserted into the upstream pipe. Blocked sewage will then be pumped
into the section downstream pipe/manhole.

3.2 Patch surface area shall be cleaned from any obstruction such as root, stone,
concrete, dirt, sludge, soil, etc.

 3.3 Patch repair consists of fibreglass mat which is wetted with silicate resin. The resin
gives highly resistant to sulphuric acid which is produced by microorganism in the
sewage.

3.4 Wetted fibreglass mat is then will be attached to the pneumatic packer.

3.5 The packer will then be inserted into the pipe (i.e. upstream manhole) while CCTV
camera will be inserted from another manhole (i.e. downstream manhole). The
camera will ensure that the packer which carried wetted fibreglass mat is moved to
the correct defect area. Its movements will be controlled by manually pull or push the
rope which had attached to it.

 3.6 Once packer is confirmed at the correct location and position, it will be inflated so
that the wetted fibreglass mat is contact with the host pipe’s inner wall. The
excessive resin will penetrate into the defective area i.e. cracked, joint displaced and
thereby create a permanent link.

3.7 Inflated air pressure will be maintained at certain duration time (as per recommended
resin curing time by the manufacturer) until the wetted fibreglass is fully cured.

3.8 Once cured, the packer will be deflated and pulled out from the pipe. The curedpatch
liner covers the entire surface of the repaired pipe section without any hydraulic
changes i.e. without obstructing the sewage flow.

4. SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT (SHE)

4.1 Workers are compulsory to wear suitable PPE during working (especially during
handling of chemicals).
4.2 Entry into the confined space (manhole) shall strictly follow DOSH ICOP 2010-
Industrial code of practice to safe working in a confined space.
4.3 Vehicle, machinery and equipment shall be inspected and to ensure in good working
condition prior to use at site.
4.4 If night work is required, site shall be equipped with sufficient lighting and proper
vehicles arrangement (TMP) to prevent disruption to the existing traffic and to avoid
public complaint.
