between 2016 and 2021, which will make it the
fifth-largest grocery retail market in Asia.

Ayala Group - Zalora
• Ayala group has obtained approval from the
Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) to
acquire a 49% stake in Zalora Philippines.
– Ayala Corp. acquired 43.3% of BF Jade E-Service
Philippines, the company that owns and operates
Zalora Philippines.
– Ayala Land Inc., BPI Capital Corp. (a unit of Bank of the
Philippine Islands) and Kickstart Ventures Inc. (a unit
of Globe Telecom) also agreed to buy stakes in BF-
Jade.
– In total, the group has gained control of 49 percent of

2016 Visa Consumer Payment
Attitudes Survey
• Big improvement on Filipinos’ appreciation of the
electronic payment system, with six out of the 10
respondents saying they prefer electronic
payments rather than paying in cash.
• 49% of Filipinos are carrying more cards and 29%
carry less cash since they consider e-payments
safer than carrying cash.
• 70 percent would prefer payments to be
automated while 66 percent said using cards was
safer than paying in cash.
