    Refugee Boy by Benjamin Zephaniah is based on true stories of young refugees

    who have left their home countries because of war, and come to England to ask for
    asylum. The fictional Alem in this story is from Ethiopia / Eritrea in Northeast Africa,
    where there was a terrible border war between the two countries that lasted from
    1998 to 2000.
