Semester- 5th
Name: Sourav
Q1. Explain Different Studies conducted for a highway
Geometric design. List the various elements used in
geometric design.
Q2. Find the minimum sight Distance required to avoid a
head on collision of two cars approaching toward each
other at 90kmph and 65kmph. Assume a reaction time of
2.5seconds, coefficient of friction of 0.7 and a brake
efficiency of 50%, in either case.
Q3. Calculate the safe overtaking sight distance for a
design speed of 86kmph. Assume (Vb=V-16)And other
data suitably.
Q4. The radius of a horizontal circular curve is 150m.The
design speed is 85kmph and the design coefficient of
lateral friction is 0.5.
Q5. Design the rate of super-elevation for a horizontal
highway curve of radius 550m and speed 75kmph.
Q6.Find the total value of width of a pavement on a
horizontal curve for a new national highway to aligned
along a rolling terrain with a ruling minimum radius.
Assume necessary data suitably. (l=6m normal width of
pavement=10m)
Q7. A National highway is passing through a rolling
terrain in heavy rainfall area have a horizontal curve of
radius 480m. Design the length of transition curve
assuming all the data suitably. (Assume According to IRC
Recommendation).
Q8. A vertical summit curve is formed at the intersection
of two gradient +3 and -5 percent . Design the length of
summit curve to provide a stopping sight distance for a
design speed of 100kmph. Assume missing data suitably.
Q9. An ascending gradient of 1 in 100 meets descending
gradient of 1 in 120m. A summit curve is to be designed
for a design speed of 110kmph so as to have a overtaking
sight distance of 550m.
Q10. Derive an expression for designing Safe Overtaking
Sight Distance on a national highway.
