1. Provide a record of all experiences you were involved with this period such as meetings,
conferences, training sessions, activities, assignments, and planning sessions. Evaluate those
experiences and provide your reaction to each.

My first day at Callaway Resort & Gardens was on May 20 and this was mainly a paperwork day and drug
testing. In the morning, the 10 interns went to go get drug testing in Columbus, GA and we all passed our
drug screening. After completing the drug testing, we headed to the Human Resources department at
Mountain Creek Inn (on property) to complete miscellaneous paperwork including a housing contract, tax
f a d ea g a e ag . The da a e e, he 3 g i e decided g g fi g on
the property. I am not a golfer anymore, however, I got to drive one of the golf carts around the course. I
loved being able to do this because I got the chance to see one of two 18-hole courses that we have on
property. It was absolutely beautiful!

On May 21st, my second day at Callaway Resort & Gardens was a fun filled day held at Mountain Creek Inn.
We covered everything Callaway! It consisted of on-boarding (employee) training, sexual harassment
training, learning how to clock in, history of Callaway, workplace safety, guest interactions, guest concerns,
internship plans, and a tour around 2500-acre Callaway property. During our orientation and training, I
learned several different things that include:
The Florida State University (FSU) circus program that comes every summer during the Summer
Family Adventure program cancelled this year due to COVID-19.
I learned that this year is the 60th anniversary of Summer Family Adventure program here at
Callaway, however it is going to look a lot different due to COVID-19 and state regulations that are in
place.
I learned that property has tons of different activities that guests can experience such as:
o Hiking and biking trails over ten miles of trails through natural landscapes.
o Robin Lake Beach beach activities including, Aqua Island, kayaks, paddleboards,
shuffleboard, ping-pong, mini-golf and more!
o Birds of Prey Show
o Callaway Discovery Center history of property and its co-founder. Educational tours,
including Mega Bugs!
o Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center over 1,000 different butterflies
o Azalea Gardens
o Ida Cason Callaway Chapel

I learned that employees get a 15% discounts and free amenities, which includes:
o Food
o Dining
o Golf
o Free: gardens admission, bike rentals, TreeTop Adventure, mini-golf, kayaks, boats, fishing,
and more!
At the end of the training/orientation session, the interns got the chance to tour around the property. The
property is giant! We got to see the 13 different lakes, the gardens, the chapel, the discovery center, the
butterfly center, and to end the day we got to experience TreeTop Adventure!

On May 22, I had my first official workday at Callaway Resort & Gardens. On this day, I was working at the
Robin Lake Beach at the Square 1 Activity & Rental Center. While working at the activities center, I learned
how to rent out paddle boards, kayaks, beach bikes, cabanas, umbrellas, and chairs. When a guest decides to
rent a kayak, paddleboard, or beach bike they have to fill out a waiver. The head lifeguard, Nick, taught me
how to use the MICROS system, which is the system that the property uses to take payments and charges
people. Also, while working at Square 1 Activity Center, I got to work alongside the other lifeguards to
ensure the safety of the guests at the beach. On this particular day, we had to clear the beach because of
lightning and thunder. This was a very hectic time for both the lifeguards and the interns because this was the
first time, we had to take action and put the guest safety into hands and clear the beach because of the storm.

From May 23 May 25, I was working at TreeTop Adventure. The self-guided, in-air obstacle course
consists of 10 zip lines ranging from 44-700 feet, and above ground challenges. TreeTop Adventure spans
more than 3000 feet horizontally and soars up to 70 feet above the forest floor. It consists of 3 different
courses. The Discovery Course contains 5 zip lines and 20 challenges including ladders, wires, logs, discs,
netting, and other suspended surfaces. The add-on Lake Course features 5 additional zip lines, including
several over the lake itself, and four obstacles. The last course is the Sapling Course, which is designed for the
younger ones who are to small for the full excursion. While working at TreeTop on May 23, I had to help
harness guests, and learn how to brief guests before sending them through the course. On this particular day,
we had 6 different rescues occur during the time that we were open. I got the chance to help some of the other
guides belay a guest stuck on a zipline. We were also really busy on this day because of Memorial Weekend.
On May 24, I also helped harness people and learned how to brief people before sending them on the course.
On this day, we had a rain delay in the afternoon because of lightning and thunderstorms. Due to the storm,
we had to reschedule guests to come back a different day or we refunded them the money. On May 25, I
learned how to use the payment system at TreeTop, which is Tessitura. On this day, I was taking payments,
scheduling people for TreeTop, answering guest questions, and helping harness people. We had a really crazy
afternoon at TreeTop. We had a water rescue occur and a rescue at the end of the day on the first zipline. I
helped participant in both of the rescues. However, the rescue at the end of the day was the most memorable
because I was one of the main people doing the rescue. We had an older lady who was on the bigger end of
things. She was stuck on the first zipline of the Discovery Course. One of the other guides went up first and
she had a hard time pulling the guest to the platform. She ended up calling me because I was only guy at
TreeTop during this time because other guys left for the day. I ended up rushing through the obstacle course
before the zipline with the rescue bag on my back and I attached it on zipline cable and attempted to throw it
to Ella (the other guide). The rescue only made it halfway, so I attached my pully and ziplined to the bag and
grabbed it and continued to zipline to the opposite platform. After this task was done, I lowered myself to the
ground and helped to belay the guest to the ground with the help of two other people. This entire process took
about 45 minutes.

I want to note that during the day, we are constantly wearing gloves, and sanitizing equipment because of
COVID-19. Whenever we help with harnessing, we are wearing gloves and a mask. After one guest is
properly harnessed (with our help) we use hand sanitizer and move on to the next who needs help.

On May 27, Shannon (the boss) gathered all of the interns and we held a weekly recap meeting at the beach
pavilion. We did our pros and cons of our first week of work. We also did program/activity planning for the
first week of Summer Family Adventure (SFA). The first families will be arriving on Saturday/Sunday. Some
of the activities and programs we planned for the week of June 1-5 include, arts and crafts, paddleboarding,
bike rides, family golf clinic, build your own boat race, kayaking, an afternoon hike, kayak races, a sandcastle
competition, and much more.

From May 29-May 30, I got the opportunity to work in a recreational field that I was new to and got to learn.
I got to work at fishing and boating. I learned how to bait a live worm to a hook. However, I will not touch a
fish. At the boathouse we rent out canoes, kayaks, and Jon Boats to guests to use. On the Jon Boat, guests can
fish off of it for half a day or a full day. We rent out canoes and kayaks for an hour to guests. For each rental,
I had to assist guests getting into the kayaks, canoes, and boats. Some of the other duties while working at the
boathouse included making sure the boat motors are charged up and ready to go. Another duty while there
was fixing the motors of the boats.

2. Any problems or surprises encountered during the reporting period.

Here and there, there was an upset guest, however when this occurs, we have been trained to call a
supervisor to come handle this problem.

One of the many surprises during this period would have to be the amount of rescues we had at TreeTop
during Memorial Weekend.

O e b e ha cc ed hi e ki g a b a i g a d fi hi g i he a g e d e b i g a ca e,
kayak or a Jon Boat back in by the correct time.

3. Positive learning experiences occurring during the reporting period.

Some of the positive learning experiences that I had during this time was how encouraging the staff is
here at Callaway Resort & Gardens.

4. Progress toward Internship Project

I have not started the project yet. I am currently thinking of ideas for the project.

NOTE: Check with University Supervisor about report delivery options. Keep a copy of all documents for
