This documentary was very cool, I loved that it was a documentary instead of a regular
movie, just because it is a good switch up from the normal movies we watch. I literally looked up
record players while I was watching this because after seeing and hearing about the shop, I
wanted to invest in a record player and experience buying records and such! I love that it all
started because Russ Solomon’s dad told him that he could have the record shop but he would
have to finance it because his dad wouldn’t, but Russ said yes and got the business the next day.
I love the employees that came in and out during it’s time, I especially loved Heidi Cotler and
her roll in the business. Throughout the whole documentary she explained that her attitude when
she came into the business was always to impress everyone, be successful and show everyone
that she, a woman, could do it and make it far. I especially loved that she wanted to be the role
model for the woman that would come into the business and she wanted to show them that they
could do just as much as everyone else. Another favorite part was when Elton John came on and
told that he was always going to Tower Records with his limo driver holding a box for all of his
records because Elton liked to have one copy of each record for each of his houses so he always
came in and got a bunch of records. It was very unfortunate that Tower Records went out of
business because of the rise of digital music but I am glad that the legacy of Tower Records still
goes on in Japan!
