Thanks for requesting the Holistic Closet Cleanout DIY guide!

With this request you showed that you’re ready to streamline your
wardrobe for less stress in your closet, more outfits that make you
feel FAB, and a glow-y confidence that permeates your entire life!

The Holistic Closet Cleanout is a system I created after working as a

personal stylist for 20 years. What makes this experience holistic is
that instead of just getting rid of stuff from your closet, you’re
discovering how to style yourself in a wardrobe that makes sense
for who you are, and how you live your life.

It’s a WHOLE self approach to looking and feeling your best by

clearing out everything that no longer serves you now.

This guide serves as your road map.

Inside, you'll find a series of exercises, instructions and videos to

help raise self awareness so you become crystal clear on what you
need in your wardrobe to make you feel amazing every day.

Now…let’s get started!

YOUR WARDROBE
Take a look at your wardrobe to determine what you like, what you’re
not wearing, and what to clear.

Go to your closet. Tie a scarf around the rod and place all the items
you like to wear on the right side of the scarf.

Next, look closely at the clothes on the right side of the scarf.

Three words that best describe how I want to look are…

These are your personal preferences; they define your taste.

Take note of what you like along with the words that describe
your style so you can align with them each time you get
dressed, and when you’re shopping for new items.

YOUR LIFESTYLE
Next look at your lifestyle. To streamline your wardrobe in a way
that makes sense for your life you must be clear on how you’re
spending your time. For instance, if you’re a stay at home mom,
you probably don’t need many suits in your closet. Below is a
sample of how someone may spend their time. On the next page
the chart is blank for you to fill in your activities.

Fill in the circle above with the activities you do in a month. Feel
free to add in lines to create more sections within the chart. The
goal is to make your wardrobe an accurate reflection of your
lifestyle.

YOUR CLOSET

Now that you have more clarity around your personal

preferences, your lifestyle and your wardrobe, it’s time to get
into your closet!

1
Go to your closet + pull out 20 - 40 items from the left side of the
scarf. (You can estimate going through about 20 items per hour.)
These are the things that you don’t love. Place them on your bed.

Each of the pieces should meet at least 1 of these requirements:

You haven’t worn it in over a year.

You aren’t sure if it fits well.
You aren’t sure if you like it.
You aren’t sure if you’ll wear it again.

As you clear away the clothes that no longer serve, it's a good
opportunity to clear out the old stories of toxic self talk that weigh you
down. When you feel resentment towards yourself, it keeps you from fully
expressing the woman you want to be.

Go to the mirror now and look at yourself.

Write down what you see.

Make space for 5 piles:

TRASH
STILL UNSURE

Your Holistic Closet Cleanout is for this season only.

Any items that are out of season should be skipped over and
placed out of sight.

For special occasion items, it doesn’t matter the last time you
wore it. Only ask yourself how it fits, if you like it, and if you’ll
ever wear it again. If you don’t love the special occasion item, or
don’t feel confident about how it fits, or don’t know if you’ll
wear it again, add it to the items that you’re placing on the bed.

Go through each item you have pulled out and do this:

Hold up the item in question.

Think of your I AM words and assess whether that item is in alignment

with those words.

Consider your your taste, and whether the item fits in to your
preferences or not.

Look at your lifestyle chart and determine which area the garment falls
into, or if it doesn’t fall into any of your sections.

Pay attention to the sensations that come up in your body. (Any

tension or feeling of restriction means let it go!)

Then ask yourself the following:

1. Why are you keeping this piece?

2. Does this piece fit into your lifestyle?

3. Can you be confident when wearing it?

4. If you saw the item in a store today, would you pay full price for it?

After going through the line of questions, place the assessed
clothing into the appropriate pile. Then do this with each pile:

KEEP
Gently put the items back into your closet.

DONATE
Pack these things up and put them by the door. See more
resources below for ideas on what to do with this stuff.

FIX
Pack these pieces up and place them by the door. Check your
calendar and book a date when you will drop them at the
seamstress or tailor.

TRASH
If you can upcycle, great. If not, it’s junk.

STILL DON’T KNOW

Pack these things in a bag and put it out of sight. Set a
reminder on your calendar for 30 days. If you think of an item in
the bag during the 30 days, you have permission to bring it
back into the closet. At the end of the 30 days, donate the bag.
(And don’t look inside the bag before you do!)
