Sole Proprietorship
I. Introduction
The sole proprietorship is the simplest business form under which one can operate a
business. The sole proprietorship is not a legal entity. It simply refers to a person who owns the
business and is personally responsible for its debts. This paper presents a sole proprietorship
business owned by William Briton located in the locality of Rosario, Batangas.
Its history started in simple decision making. Before, William Briton worked abroad but
he decided to stay here in Philippines for good so he put up a business, a grocery store. He
started selling in a small stall until his business arise and got a name in the market of Rosario.
From time to time, buyers are coming to buy until they created relationship. Now, the business is
20 years in the industry.
The purpose of this paper is to inform people to gain knowledge on the businesses
established here in the locality. It is essential to know the strategies formed by the business
owner which eventually affects the exchange of goods, supply, customers, competitors, and etc.
It is also presented here the Organizational Structure of the business cited and its SWOT
analysis. It is important to know how the business contributes to the environment especially its
contribution to the business world.

IV. Strategies of William Briton in terms of:


a. Managing People
Having people to work for your business is very important for they contribute in running
your business well. It is said that they are the most important asset of all organizations. For them
to perform well, they must be given guidelines, standards and policies to follow in working for
the business. So for William Briton, he sets standards to control his people. He, as the owner,
acts strictly for them to be disciplined. Managing people well will help form the trust which is
basically important in every business.
b. Managing the Operation
It is important to know the flow of operations happening inside the business to know if
you are earning profit or not. Operation inside the business must be managed well. For William
Briton, it is helpful to be open minded to manage the operation. Also by memorizing all prices of
his product will be helpful. Lastly, strong intuition will help to control his people better.
c. Managing Sales and Promotion
Sales and promotion are important in introducing new products. So for the supplier, it is
their job to make advertisements for the product to become well known. It is just the seller will
make the products click to the market. According to William Briton, being friendly to the
customers will help him to gain profit. And by the trend of selling products with low price will
encourage more customers to acquire products from him.

V. Environment Analysis
a. Contribution to Community and Economy
Businesses in the country have been the contributors of the economy’s growth. Through
the business established by William Briton, people inside the community get affordable and low-
priced products which help them meet their needs. In some instances, his business offers lower
price than in other places.
b. Effects of Competitors
Because of the fast paced life of many people living in Rosario, there are many new
establishments formed in the place. Buyers are now centralized in the establishments which offer
fast systems, such are SM Hypermarket, Ultramega, etc. Because of that, there are lesser buyers
in the business of William Briton than before.

VI. Conclusion and Recommendation


Establishing business requires knowledge before-hand. You must be knowledgeable
enough to know what kind of business you will form and how much profit will you invest in. In
business, we must not consider only the profit we will gain but also we must know the processes,
operations and the flow happening inside and outside of the business. By making the
Organizational Structure, it will help the people inside the business to be controlled and the
designation of duties will be right. Through the SWOT Analysis, you can determine what you
will strengthen more and what you will improve for the better of your business. We must also
know how and what will the business contribute to the community and economy.
For the business to last or to attain success, determination and hardwork is essential. By
having good relationship to your people, you can form trust which will help your business. Being
open minded and having the courage will lead to what you want in the business.
