CREATE CROSS AXES
After the longitudinal alignment has been created, you can construct cross axes. Cross axes that are
draped on the surface of the digital terrain model are cross sections. Using commands from the Cross
Axes command group, you can create cross axes on arbitrary stations as follows: equidistant (at regular
intervals), through selected points on the longitudinal axis or in the main points of the axis.
Start with Layout ribbon Panel and select the command Draw Section Lines.
To draw the equidistant sample lines define the distance between cross axes interval. Cross axes are
created equidistantly along the whole axis, over the whole interval or within the specified limits. In the
latter case, enter the starting and ending station by typing values in the edit boxes or select them from
the drawing by clicking the button . Either the first cross axis can be aligned at the starting station
(option Align at starting station) or the last cross axis can be aligned at the ending station (option Align
at ending station).
2
Chose if you want to draw the cross axis at the starting, ending station or in horizontal elements
start/end points. Enter the distance between individual generated cross axes, enter the left and right
width of the generated cross axes and prefix for cross axes names. Select the starting number for axes
numbering and chose whether axes numbers will increase or decrease. After you have define all the
parameters press OK.
The Section Lines Through Points command enables cross axes interactive drawing at user defined
alignment positions.
After user defines the position of a cross axis, dialog box opens up. In this dialog box the user can
change or fine tune the cross axes station. It also allows to define multiple cross axes positions at once.
In this case Station fine tuning possibility is not available.
Enter station, at which the cross axis should be drawn. The station can be also picked from the drawing
by clicking the button. Enter the left and right width of the generated cross axes and prefix for
cross axes names. Then select the starting number for axes numbering and chose whether axes
numbers will increase or decrease. Click the button Draw multiple cross-axes to draw multiple cross
axes. The dialog box will close and the locations for the cross axes will be selected from the drawing.

3. Convert Pline to Section Lines
If you want to converts an arbitrary two-dimensional Pline entity into a cross axis and to create cross
axes that are not perpendicular to the longitudinal axis select the command Convert Pline to Section
Lines. The command also enables to rename existing cross axis by selecting it and define new cross-
axis name.
4
After running the command user needs to select a polyline in the drawing. The following dialog box
appears, where polyline cross-axis name needs to be defined.

4. Create Section Lines from Points
The command Create Section Lines from Points draws the cross axes on the basis of points in individual
profiles along the axis. Besides the classic method and the zigzag method the function enables to draw
cross axes on the basis of a regression method. We have two options: perpendicular regression and
ordinary regression.
In the following dialog box select the data source (CGS points or Civil3D points) and the layer, where
the points of the cross sections are. Then define the method on witch basis the cross axes will be drawn
and enter the left and right width of the generated cross axes. Press OK to create cross axes from
points.
