Solar Irrigation System

MAJOR AREA AND DOMAIN:

The major area and domain of Solar irrigation system is renewable energy & sensor.

NAME OF MENTOR:
Mr. Vikash Kumar

GROUP MEMBERS:

OBJECTIVE:
The main objective of this project is to advance an irrigation system in field of agriculture by
using solar energy.

INTRODUCTION:
Solar-powered water pumping systems can find
application in town water supply, livestock
watering and irrigation. Solar-powered irrigation
system is an application of solar-powered water
pumping system used in paddy fields, gardens for
watering the plants, vegetables, etc. A typical
example of solar-powered irrigation system is
shown in Fig. 1.

Some advantages of a typical solar irrigation Figure 1. A typical solar-powered irrigation

system are: system

1. It makes irrigation possible in remote areas

2. Is environment friendly
3. No grid connection required
4. No electricity bills to be paid
5. No fuel required
6. Is durable, requiring minimal maintenance

COMPONENTS:

Solar PV cell

DC pump

Battery

Controller

Moisture sensor

Relay

METHODOLOGY:
This project focuses on solar energy being absorbed by the PV cells and then is to be converted
into electrical energy which then feeds an electric motor driving the pump, the sensors sense the
moisture level of soil and level of water which helps the controller to control the flow of water.

CONCLUSION:
Solar irrigation can increase incomes dramatically, particularly for remote producers with
inconsistent access to electricity or fuel. By targeting water at a crop's roots, drip irrigation can
reduce weed and disease pressures, and increase efficiency of chemical applications.
