The Renzo Piano Building Workshop's new
Whitney Museum headquarters brings
together all the museum spaces within the
new building, featuring numerous and flexible
galleries that allow you to exhibit many pieces
of the collecCon so far in the stores. The
exterior shape of the building - large volumes,
cut to sharp edges with a larger mass toward
the river and jagged and sloping toward the
city - interpret the imperfect and scaHered
character of the Meatpacking District where
the harbor atmosphere is sCll alive Industrial
estate in Old New York.

The Jérome Seydoux-Pathé FoundaCon works
to preserve the heritage of Pathé's cinemaCc
society, which was born at the beginning of the
twenCeth century. The new home is in the
center of a block of the 13th arrondissement,
where there was an old theater building of the
mid-nineteenth century, transformed in the
early twenCeth century in the cinema hall and
modified in the 1960s.
The new architecture houses the Pathé
archives, some exhibiCon spaces (temporary
and permanent collecCon), a 70-seat
projecCon room, and the FoundaCon's offices.
This is an unexpected presence, a curved
volume that is seen floaCng at the center of
the court where it leaned, anchoring in a few
points. The new building leaves space on the
ground for a birch garden, a vegetable island in
the dense mineral context of the city

The London Bridge Tower is a building that
grows in height, in which different funcCons
coexist: private apartments, public
floors, shops, restaurants, offices and a hotel.
It's a verCcal city where 8.000 people work and
live. The building resembles an elongated
pyramid that stands out against the sky and
vanishes through the clouds. Eight sloping
glass facades, the “shards” define the shape
and visual quality of the tower, fragmenCng
the scale of the building and reflecCng the light
in unpredictable ways.

Immersed in the Golden Gate Park of San
Francisco, the new seat of the California
Academy of Sciences re-organizes the famous
natural collecCons, paying great aHenCon to
environmental sustainbility,
symbolically condensed in the green roof of
the building: it looks as a piece of the park has
been cut away and lifed ten meters above the
ground.

Kansai InternaConal Airport is located on an
arCficial island, specially built in Osaka Bay.
The shape of the roof of the terminal arises
from a long work on the dynamic lines of the
air flows circulaCng in the building. It has been
designed to convey air from the passenger side
to the track side without requiring the use of
closed conduits. Blade-like baffles guide the
airflow along the ceiling and reflect the light
coming from above. This eliminates all the
elements that would have prevented the
structure from being seen. Even the curves of
the "wings" of the building are the result of the
applicaCon of a strict law: they have been
defined on the basis of a toroidal geometry.
The curvature is almost impercepCble, but it
was necessary to favor the side view from the
control tower.
