Case study

Question 1: Even if we are respecting the law, does this issue go beyond
legal concerns?
Answer: Yes, of course it does, it goes to moral concerns and to our
duty towards other human being. A key issue to consider in relation to
ethics and the law is whether the law is adequate as a guide for our
personal and professional lives, and in this case is not.
Question 2: Can you think of other examples in bussiness where
perfectly legal practics have had dire consequences?
Answer: Actually very recently at home something happened. A fair
amount of firms threw all the wastewater into a local river for years
because they found “a gap” in the law. The river crosses the center of the
city and people who knew what was happening made reports to the local
police but the police didn’t do anything because they said it was within
the law. After that people called the media and made some test to see the
pollution in the water, after a couple of weeks all the firms were
sanctioned really bad.
Question 3: What actions will create the greatest good and do the least
harm to the people involved?
Answer: Thinking long therm, investing in the new tehnology now and
take the risk of not making much profit this year but doing the right
thing for the people and the company.
Question 4: How do the actions we want to make measure up to my
basic moral values?
Answer: “ The greater good of the many ( people ) is more important
than the little good of the few ( the company ). This is my answer.
