Re : UNSATISFACTORY NBS SAMPLES

A review of the rejected and unsatisfactory NBS samples received from 256 newborn screening facilities in REGION 6 from 01 APRIL
to 30 JUNE 2020 showed that your facility has the following NBS perfomance:

If your total unfit/unsat (late/<24hrs) percentage is above 1.00%, we suggest that the NBS staff review the procedures in blood sample
collection and acquire supplemental training if necessary in order to ensure that acceptable NBS samples are sent to the NSCV
laboratory to avoid delays in the performance of the tests.

If your total unfit/unsat (late/<24hrs) percentage is below 1.00% , we highly commend the NBS staff for achieving an acceptable
unsatisfactory rate for rejected samples and for samples requiring repeat collection. We therefore urge all NBS staff in charge of
collecting NBS samples to keep up the good work.

If your total unsat (for updating) percentage is above 1%, may we remind all those in charge of providing patient’s NBS data to
completely fill out all vital information in the NBS filter card to avoid delays in the performance of the tests and release of newborn
screening results. It also also important that verification of all NBS samples is being done by another individual prior to the samples
being sent out to the NSCV laboratory.

If your total unsat (for updating) percentage is below 1%, we again commend the staff for ensuring veracity and completeness of all
NBS samples. Please continue the excellent work.
