Field Observation # 7

Summary

Field Observation Summary

After spending 10 hours observing teacher Diana Hernandez and her Kindergarten

class, I was able to see some very important teaching tools being applied in the

classroom. Those tools were patience, patience, patience. The teacher had to apply

patience in redirecting students when they became distracted. Patience was also applied

when the teacher must use the tool of repetition to get the students to get students to

recall, and learn the lesson being taught.

I also observe the importance of the teacher-parent partnership when it comes to

the success of the student. Some parents participated daily with their students, others not

so much. Some non-speaking parents attended asking questions when they nor the

students had clear understanding of the lesson.

I also learned firsthand, that teaching is a profession that you must have a joy

about doing. Time and again during the teacher interview, Ms. Hernandez spoke about

the joy she receives teaching her students. “I do this not for the money, because teachers

don’t make a lot of money. I do this for the joy it brings me and the love I have for my

students. They are my children”.

I agree totally with Ms. Hernadez, I have found the joy in teaching, and a love for

children, that has lasted my life. Ms. Hernandez gave me permission to contact her when

I need help. I know that I will take her up on her offer.
