American History

How We Became A Country

The First Americans
When the explorers from Europe came to
the American shores, they found the land
occupied by the Indians. There where many
different tribes, and they controlled the land.
Little by little the Indians were forced off of
their land as more and more people from
Europe arrived. Many tribes still exist today,
and live on reservations. No longer called
Indians, but Native Americans, can you
name a tribe?
The Pilgrims
The Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. They were among the first
settlers. Can you tell me what Holiday we still celebrate that was
started by the Pilgrims? Why was that holiday started?
Revolt
The citizens of the 13 colonies decide they want to govern
themselves. They want freedom to become their own country. Can
you tell me what country they revolted from? What was the name
of the war that they fought against that country? What was the
name of the first president of the Untied States?
The First 13
The first American flag had 13
stars and stripes. Can you tell me
why? Can someone name those
first 13 states? How many stars
does the flag have today?
