KMEA:
● February 27-29th
● STUDENT DISCOUNT ($15) ENDS THIS FRIDAY (1/31)
○ Cost will increase from $15-40 after this
○ NAfME collegiate member KMEA ticket follows the above rule
● NAfME collegiate national dues are $30, chapter dues are $10 (yearly)
○ Pay Gabby Yager for chapter dues, national dues are online
● We will split the cost of hotel rooms (you pay 50-75% less than regular hotel price)
● Let us know if you want to travel/stay in a hotel with NAfME members by the 2nd week
of February

Before You Teach:
● Build your resume now!
● Build a library of repertoire/knowledge of curricula
● Take advantage of every opportunity you have now (performing, teaching, studio,
lessons, piano)
● FILM YOURSELF TEACHING
● Join online communities (networking, gigs, teaching ideas) Facebook, Pinterest, etc.
● Get teacher clothes

Interview:
● Find a position
● Goals you have for the program
● Ask about funding, library, community support, expectations, culture, scheduling,
responsibilities, accompanist, etc.
● Who is present at the interview?
● Professional development collaboration

You got the Job!


● Summer-look at rep/curriculum (balanced), tentative plans, calendar for the year, course
syllabus
● Order music EARLY
● Organize classroom, familiarize yourself with facilities, online system, technology/event
needs
● Meet the staff!! (especially music, custodial, front office, fine arts coordinator/asst.
principal)
● LEARN NAMES!
● Be yourself, make an impression
● Be on the lookout for standouts/leadership
● Establish firm routine/etiquette
● Find other teacher friends
● Do stuff outside of school for YOU
● You have support from KSU, family, significant other
● Extra money options- studio, lessons, church job
● Steal rep, warmups, ideas from everyone
● Field trips! Social Time! Bonding!
