Hyderabad Hosts Vajapeya Maha Soma Yaga, 2020, The world's oldest surviving ritual and The Greatest sacred
Somayaga as per Vedic hierarchy. Traditionally, 'Vajapeya', is considered to be Supreme among the 'SaptaMaha
Soma Yagas'. In Satapatha Brahmana (IX.3.4.8) it is said that by performing the Rajasuya one becomes a king
(Rajan) and by the performance of Vajapeya one attains the position of an Emperor (Samrat). King Janaka
performed the Vajapeya Yaga at the time of the Swayamvara of Sri Seetha (Padma Purana 5.40). The Valmiki
Ramayana has several references about Vajapeya Mahasomayaga. Relevant extracts from Valmiki Ramayana, are
as follows:

The Global mankind is experiencing a strange and first of its kind

pandemic phase. In the pretention of advancement and
civilization, we - the human race, an evolutionary intellectual
among all living beings, consciously ignored its vital Smt. G.V.Kumari Dr. G.B.K.RAO
responsibility and accountability towards Nature. Chairman, Pragati Group
In our vigorous pursuit towards materialistic excellence, we conveniently derailed our Vedic path of adoring
Nature, five elements and the ecological balance. It is nothing but cutting our own branch on which we sit. We
consciously ignored the Nature and its sustainability, the very base for all living beings on the planet Earth. It is high
time to realize that our technological and scientific advancement and civilization cannot protect us even from the
Nature's tiny reaction viz. COVID - 19.
“Our aim is to familiarize the common man with ancient Indian scientific and philosophical knowledge. In fact, Yaga and Yoga are the part
of our Indian heritage. Like Yoga, Yaga has to be showcased to the present generation so that they reap its fruits.“

In fact, Nature, for the last few decades, started reacting to our ignorance in the form of natural calamities and
viruses which we couldn't realize. Vexed with our ignorance, exploitation, Nature started correcting itself.
Pandemic COVID is undeniably the result of our decades of irresponsibility towards Nature. It is now costing the
lives of millions of Human beings across the Planet. All the organizations, doctors, scientists, Governments,
intellectual think tanks are striving hard to find a solution to arrest the spread
of this pandemic. Yet, experts say, it is just a starting and only a Nature's
wakeup call for all living beings on the Planet Earth.
PRAGATI, (Pragati Biodiversity Knowledge Park) having sensed these potential
threats; 25 years ago, took up the relentless pursuit of preaching and
practicing the Indian Vedic culture & Rishi Sanskriti, Biodiversity (balance of
'five elements' – Nature). It has been propagating the importance of nature
and its sustainability among the people, Governments, NGOs with frequent
clarion calls on various public platforms sensitizing the people at large on the
importance of Biodiversity and the balance of Nature for the survival of all the
living beings.
PRAGATI, with its deep rooted belief in Vedic wisdom, in order to support the
human efforts in combating the pandemic COVID, aims to seek the divine
blessings to purify the five elements (Nature). In this process, to boost the
healing energy of the global mankind, PRAGATI, in association with Sri Yagna Adhvaryu :
Aurobindo International Foundation and Maharshi Vedic University, Holland Vedmurti shree Mangesh Bavikar
and with the the participation of highly learned RITWIKS across the country, is
performing the sacred ever and ultimate “HYDERABAD VAJAPEYA MAHA SOMAYAGA - 2020” from 14th – 25th
December, 2020” at its globally recognized Biodiversity knowledge Park located at Proddutur Village,
Shankarpally Mandal, the close outskirts of Hyderabad.
Vājapeya refers to the “sacrifice with well-cooked food” and represents Taittirīya school of kṛṣṇayajurveda.
Vajapeya literally means the drink of strength or of battle. One who performs an elaborate sacrifice like a
somayajna is called a "yajva", "diksita" or "makhin". And one who conducts the greatest of the somayajnas,
vajapeya, is known as a "vajapeyin". Metaphorically, Vajapeya yajna signifies to bring inner purity and love into
everyday life. The goal of such practices is to acquire knowledge of Brahman. If we give away all our things in the
Vajpeya yagna (sacrifice), we will become Indra (king of Gods). The Vajpeya yajna is performed for increasing the
good tendencies in the society. Yaga is meant to confer upon the performer superior strength and divinity.
Vajapeya — lasts for 17 days, 17 stotras & sastras and 17 cups of Soma.
There is a chariot race the distance of which is fixed by 17 successive arrow
shots, drummers, 17 bags of salt tied to the yupa.
Antiquity: The antiquity of the Yaga goes back to Indus Civilization. The
historien Romila Thaper opines that similar to the earthen vessels found in
the Harappa Mohanjadoro excavations are still used in this Yaga.
Numerous references are found of this Yagna being performed in ancient
times. The practice of this Yaga ritual was slowly discontinued among
Brahmins by the late Vedic period. Nevertheless, a continuous, unbroken
5000 year tradition has been found to exist among a few Namboodri Yajaman
Brahmin families in Kerala and other prominent Brahmin families in South Sri Yamavaram Anantakrishna Somayaji

Scientific Study: This sacred 'SomaYaga' is scientifically proven and absolutely a Vedic based alternative way, in
addition to the human efforts, to combat, eradicate and retaliate the Pandemics by purifying the five elements.
The Yaga will not only boost the healing energy of the global mankind but also cleanse the atmosphere so that it
becomes medicinal, nutritious and disease-free.
The fascinating Vedic 'Vajapeya' ritual is extensively documented, preserved, and its psycho-social aspects
pertaining to Indology studied. TSeveral scientific experiments are carried out to study the phenomena of this
Yaga. Surprising results are seen in their findings. The absence of virus in Yaga vicinity, increase of germination of
seeds from 300 times to 2000 times, a sudden flash of temperature during pravargya, a fire ritual, to the tune of
3870°c with laser like qualities, down pour of rain up to 100 Km range, an increase of output of milk in the cows in
the surrounding areas, regenerative activity in abundance in the nature, increase of fertility rate and cure for
infertility are some of the results seen during the scientific studies. The various research organizations are being
roped in under the agies of Swamy Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) and Maharshi Vedic
University, Holland, for an in-depth study of the various phenomena of this Yaga.
The Map of Yagasala: This Yaga is performed in specially designed and erected thatched sheds called Yagasaala. A
detailed Image of the Yagasaala is given below for the sake of the intersted people.

Pravargya: As a part of Pravargya (a special ball of fire), a sudden flash of temperature to the tune of 3870°c is
created in order to cleanse the environment. Pravargya almost matches the Sun's temperature to cleanse the
atmosphere and according to Vedas it has the potential to cleanse environment including eradication of Virus in
an area of 100 km radius. Somayagas have great potential to wipe out Corona Virus from the World. It is proposed
to conduct several Somayagas at different parts of the world and do scientific studies on the presence of Virus in
the vicinity of Yaga Sthal and also in the radius of 100 km.
Somalatha: As per Vedas 'Soma Yaga' is highly spiritual and effective ritual to purify the environment from harmful
viruses and other toxic elements. The atmosphere will be rejuvenated by the oblation of 'Somalatha', the king of
Herbs and many other sacred samidhas (holy wooden sticks) which are precious healers viz. the holy wooden
sticks/pieces (Samidhas) of Indian Banyan, Peepal, Fig, Khadira etc,.
In the sixteenth chapter of 'Sushrutha Samhita' Soma Yaga is prescribed for eradication of the pandemics and
cleanse the five elements. In the third chapter of 'Charaka Samhita' too, it is referred as an effective healer of
pandemics. The soma is a leafless creeper which has the highest medicinal properties and considered to be the
king of Herbs.
In the Vedas, word 'Soma' is used for the drink, the plant, and its deity. Drinking soma produces immortality
(Amrita, Rigveda 8.48.3). Gods Indra and Agni are portrayed as consuming 'SOMA' in copious quantities. In
the Vedic mythology, INDRA performed Somayaga and drank large amounts of 'soma' while fighting the
serpent demon Vritra. The consumption of soma by human beings is also well attested in Vedic ritual.
Bṛhaspati-sava Somayaga
(20 to 25 December, 2020)
In the Vedas it is prescribed that before performing a bṛhaspati-sava
sacrifice, one should perform the vājapeya Mahasomayaga. It is
mentioned in the Srimad Bhagavatam (4.3.3) that having performed
vājapeya sacrifice, Dakṣa became excessively confident of support
by Lord Brahmā and performed another great sacrifice, named
bṛhaspati-sava. Dakṣa, being puffed up with his power, wanted to Bṛhaspati-sava (Daksha Yagnam)
deprive Lord Śiva of participation in the sacrifice. Dakṣa neglected Nireeshwar_yagna (the yaga was
Lord Śiva while performing bṛhaspati-sava. performed in the absence of Shiva)
Even though discouraged by Shiva, Sati went to the ceremony alone.
She was snubbed by Daksha and insulted by him in front of the
guests. Sati, unable to bear further insult, ran into the Sacrificial fire
and immolated herself. This news angered Lord Siva and he created
Veera Bhadra from one of his hair strands. Lord Veera Bhadra went
to the yagna and destroyed everything and finally removed the head
of Daksha and the head was thrown to the fire.
Later, Shiva forgave Daksha and asks demigods to complete the Yaga
according to the scriptures and installs the head of a 'mesha' (goat)
to Daksha and makes him alive again. Daksha offered a share of the
oblations to ‘Dakshinamurthy' and the sacrifice was successfully
completed.
Daksha Yaga was an important turning point in the creation and
development of sects in Hinduism. It is the story behind the 'Stala
Purana' (Origin story of Temples) of Shakti Peethas. There are 51
(some say 108) Shakti Peethas shrines all over South Asia. Vishnu
restored calm and rid of Shiva's attachment by severing Sati's body
into multiple pieces with his divine discus, the Sudarshan Chakra.
Sati's severed body parts fell in various places. The places where Sati Dakshinamurthy temple has already
Devi's body parts fell came to be known as Shakti Peethas. been constructed at the Yagasthal in
Pragati resorts.

The above picture depicts the frame of Lord Dhanvantari, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, holding sacred
Vanamulikas (herbs) with one of his hands demonstrates the unimaginable importance attributed to herbal
medicinal wealth of this soil for the wellbeing of all the living beings on the Planet.
India, for centuries, had been the healing capital of the Globe. Indian traditional healing system, probably the
oldest medical systems in the world. We have concrete proof for it in the oldest religious book- the Rig Veda.
Though the Vedas speak about different herbs in different places, the most famous hymn is the 'the healing
plants' hymns in Rig Veda (10-97).
The hymns in Vedas about herbs indicate not only their sacred healing power but also their inseparable and
invaluable role in our Vedic culture. All the herbs were associated with the Soma Plant, the king of Herbs and
the Moon. Magical and divine qualities were attributed to herbs. Hundreds and hundreds of plant names are
referred in our literature right from ages old Vedas, which signifies their importance and the eternal relation
with living beings and also to balance the five elements – Nature.
Offering food is Great – Fulfils one's hunger
Offering Education is Greater - Enlightens and Empowers
Offering Knowledge of Herbs is the Greatest – Ensures Universal Wellbeing.
It is high time to rethink and realize about our so-called civilization in the form of scientific advancement and
move towards our Roots viz. the vedic culture where the herbal medicinal Plants & Cows (Kalpa vrikshalu –
Kama Dhenuvulu) were given utmost importance for balancing the five elements (Nature) to lead a healthy,
wealthy and happy lifestyles with full of contentment. Let us strive to bring back the glorious past of the
Indian vedic culture and our forgotten Natural herbal healing system for the wellbeing of the universal
mankind. PRAGATI, has already started its journey long back in this direction with the support of all the
likeminded progressive thinkers.
In this process, to start with, we have immense pleasure to heartily invite you to this sacred ever
“HYDERABAD VAJAPEYA MAHA SOMA YAGNAM – 2020' which will surely throw a light on our Herbal
Medicinal heritage, Vedic science and serve as a ritualistic witness of our forgotten rich Vedic culture. We
seek your liberal support to our sincere effort taken up in the larger interests of wellness of the global
mankind. Hope, you will certainly appreciate this 'need of the hour', sacred mission to save the global
mankind from the Pandemic and support our divine ritual in all possible ways to strengthen our spirit in this
direction.
